Wild Young Princess: Mister, let's sleep?

Chapter 198 - You Are Killing Her

Devon let out a shallow breath as she stared at Lewis, who was tearing up at the dish she made. She pressed lips into a thin line, biting her inner lips, as her mind drifted to a certain memory in her head.

Two months ago...

Devon sat down. Across from her was her psychologist. It was that time of the month where she would talk to this woman.

"So, how have you been, Missus Lin?" The psychologist smiled kindly, resting her hand on her lap to listen to Devon. The latter pursed her lips as she gazed down.

"Better?"

"Better? Are you not sure?"

Devon smiled bitterly as she slowly lifted her head. "I am not sure." She paused, diverting her eyes down. Her doctor remained silent to give her some time to express herself.

"You are killing her," she muttered bitterly, clutching her hand tightly. "Every time I come in here, you are killing her. The more I get better, the more she is disappearing."

"You mean Ghost Lin?" Devon nodded when the Psychologist asked. The latter was the only person who knew Devon\'s condition and swore that everything they talked about would remain confidential. Even Lewis wasn\'t allowed to know the details of her treatment, aside from the general information, of course.

"Ever since she got better, the more I felt like I was eating her." Devon bit her lower lip, feeling this melancholy that she had been hiding from everyone. "I don\'t want her to go."

Ever since Devon started her treatment, the other soul who was within her was slowly filling up the space she left. It was as if the more the original Devon sees the good things in life, the more her soul shrinks. So slowly, only a small portion of her consciousness remained.

The situation slowly turned into the real Devon, thinking She was within her, to the Princess thinking the real Devon was within her. It was a little complicated matter, but her psychologist listened to her.

"Missus Lin, look at this." Devon raised her head, seeing the doctor put up her hands; one was curled into a ball while the other was spread open. "Right now, you think this fist is Ghost Lin and this open hand is you. You see this situation as \'absorbing her like this.\'"

The psychologist demonstrated as the open hand wrapped around the fist. A smile appeared on her lips as she exchanged gazes with Devon.

"But what I see is this." She separated her hand from her fist. This time, she let both hands open, slowly putting them together.

"Instead of devouring her, you two are embracing each other like this." Her fingers slipped in between the gaps of her other hand until they were holding each other. "When a person is undergoing great distress and been suffering from depression resulting in self-harm, it doesn\'t necessarily mean they want to die."

"They simply want to kill something inside them," she continued with the same smile. "But you are not killing her, Missus Lin. You are putting her to rest by embracing her and accepting that she is a part of you, which is also good. No matter what, Lin Devon or Ghost Lin, the two of you are one. She will always be in you and you are always in her. As long as you are aware of her existence and hold a part of her consciousness, she will always be there. Somewhere within, basking in your warmth and comfort."

Devon\'s eyes softened as she bit her lower lip. The dominant part of her brain held the Princess\' consciousness, but there was also this part of her that Ghost Lin held.

Personality and mannerism mixed as these two consciousnesses collided. The psychologist was right. Ghost Lin didn\'t want to die. She wanted to kill something within her, which was the pain in her soul. Now that the two souls were put together, Ghost Lin let her take charge.

After that session, Devon did what she had always been doing. She loved Ghost Lin and didn\'t want to forget about her. Hence, she would always think and act like the real Devon until it became a habit. The way she speaks and everything. It wasn\'t that they were that different. Actually, the more she thought of the real Devon, the more she realized they were similar in many things.

Devon snapped her eyes as Dion spoke, bringing her back to the current laps. She must be going crazy for putting Lewis in such a situation. But between the three of them, Ghost Lin had to keep living within her. If she told him the truth, she was afraid she would forget about Ghost Lin.

\'I\'m sorry, Lu,\' hinting at him was the only thing she could do.

"Sis, look what you did to Ge. Gosh... how can you poison the people who genuinely care for you?" Kai looked at her in disappointment, shaking his head.

"Fifth brother, you haven\'t even tasted it yet. Ge is crying because it is that good," Ansel commented as he clicked his tongue in irritation.

"Yes, it\'s good." Lewis wiped his tears with the back of his fist as he sniffed hard, lifting his eyes to her. He raised his hand, cupping her jaw as he caressed her cheek with her thumb.

"You did great..." he paused and smiled. "It\'s really good."

Devon subtly smiled before she shrugged, turning her head to her number one basher, Kai. "See?"

"Ge, do you really have to lie?" Kai scrunched his nose up, disappointed at Devon\'s number one fan.

"I\'m not lying. Don\'t eat if you don\'t want to." Lewis glanced at his fifth brother coldly, but the latter just pressed his lips together.

Since Devon lived there, all of them found themselves staying longer in there. Actually, they mostly deserted their own place and just go home to the old residence. One reason was Devon\'s presence in the old residence gave it a better mood and she never ceased to give them equal attention.

The other reason was, all of them got closer to Lewis. In the past, the eldest was always busy and rarely went to the old Qin residence. With him staying in here, they had more time with him. So, other than getting scared of him, everyone got too relaxed around him. The only one who was unaffected by this was Dion because he was shameless enough to bother Lewis in the past to get closer to him.

"Yes, fifth brother. Just order your own food." Rio nodded as they all began to serve themselves with Devon\'s cooking.

"That\'s right. Just order something to fill your luxurious stomach," Ansel chimed in as he smiled at Devon when she put a piece on his plate.

"What a picky eater, fifth brother. Don\'t worry. I bought ice cream for later. Good thing the store was short of stock so, I only bought five." Dion already picked his side, and that wasn\'t Kai. "Hey, Rio, have more. We can\'t let him have even a drop!"

The latter gasped as he watched everyone take more portions of the food, just in case he would change his mind. Even Lewis had more on his plate — ruining his own diet. He watched the pot get emptied by them, gazing at these meanies.

"You..." Kai frowned as they all eat, moaning and commenting how great it was. He knew they were just teasing him, but since they were all on the same side, it was annoying.

"I hate yo..." he trailed off when Devon gave him a small bowl she served herself earlier, which she hadn\'t touched yet. He darted his eyes from her eyes to the bowl.

"Don\'t complain if you will sulk later," she said, clicking her tongue. "A lot of children are suffering from starvation."

"Sis..." Kai\'s eyes sparkled and ignored the glares from his brother.

After their meal, everyone prepared for another movie night hosted by Devon. Since she would always do this movie night, it had become a part of their schedule every weekend. And so, they all watched two consecutive movies before they all went to bed.

Lewis, who just got out of the shower, set his eyes on her. She was already on the bed, sleeping with the book right beside her. A shallow sigh slipped past his lips, seeing that she fell asleep while reading. Still in his robe, he marched towards the bed to put the book on the bedside.

Just as he did, his eyes landed on her. A subtle smile appeared on his face as he perched on the edge of the mattress, eyes still on her.

"Dev," he whispered, brushing the stray strands of her hair away. "Dev,"

"Mhm..." Devon moaned, opening her eyes weakly. "Lu?"

Her brows furrowed while he smiled, sighing a shallow breath. He didn\'t want to wake her up, but tonight, he did.

"I just want to say goodnight," he said and she smiled, spreading her arms, asking for a hug. "My hair is still wet," he added, but she frowned and shook her arms.

He sighed, bending over while she wrapped her arms around his neck. His eyes instantly softened as her warmth instantly enveloped him. Since she didn\'t care about his damp hair, Lewis laid down beside her while she stroked his hair.

"Good night, husband," she whispered, blinking weakly. He didn\'t respond immediately before he drew his head back, gazing up at her sleepy countenance. His lips parted, wanting to ask her an important question, but held back.

\'It doesn\'t matter now, right?\' he thought, thinking that whether she was the real Devon or the other one, it didn\'t matter anymore. What matter now was… she captured his heart again.

Seeing that he was just staring, she raised her brows. "Hmm?"

"Can I love you?" he asked, catching her off-guard as her partially closed eyes popped open before they softened.

She smiled and leaned her face forward, placing a peck on the apex of his nose. "Sure."

When she drew her head back, they looked at each other for a long time. They didn\'t talk and just stared in silence.

"Lu," she whispered, but Lewis stretched his neck, tilting his head, and claimed her lips. It was brief as leaned back an inch, staring at her while cupping her cheek.

"I think… I am the definition of insanity," she uttered under her breath as her chest moved in and out heavily.

"Or am I?" he replied despite the vagueness of her words, leaning down again while she closed her eyes for a deeper and more passionate kiss.. This time, Lewis was certain of the difference between their kiss now and before.
