Wild Young Princess: Mister, let's sleep?

Chapter 197 - Same

On his way home, Lewis stared at the window, seeing the flashing side of the road. His long eyelashes fluttered leisurely, while his mind drifted away from the past three months. Ever since Devon took her treatment seriously, she was getting day by day. Watching her slowly recover helped him as well.

To him, she was like trying to recover for the two of them. There were times she was being silly like this morning, and he always found himself getting along. He would still think of Her every once in a while and still longed for her. But... sometimes Devon would act like the princess without her knowledge.

As someone who loved her deeply, Lewis could not help but notice. Still, he knew they were two different women who shared the same body. So he tried to ignore it.

"Derek." Lewis finally broke his silence without peeling his eyes away from the window. Derek, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, looked back, setting his eyes on his boss.

"Your girlfriend sent my wife the picture of the bikini she bought for her." Derek\'s expression remained the same, even though he realized that was the reason Lewis was on his phone during the meeting. "Do you allow her to wear something so revealing?"

"What she wears is her choice, young master. It\'s her body, not mine. Why do I need to allow " As usual, Derek\'s response was straightforward. Lewis chuckled as his assistant sounded like he was simply saying his thoughts about a business proposal.

"Make sense." Lewis nodded with his lips closed.

"Of course, I dislike other people from seeing what I see. But if that makes her happy, then so be it. My only consolation is they can only look, but I can touch it... as much as I like."

This time, Lewis finally peeled his eyes away from the window to Derek. His eyes bore dismay, looking at his assistant as if he was a dirty man.

"Derek, I didn\'t know you are that straightforward." He shook his head in disappointment, but Derek only shrugged.

"We are adults. Your relationship with Miss Lin is weirder."

"You think so?"

Derek blinked twice, studying Lewis\'s expression just so he could confirm that he was serious with his question. After several seconds of silence, he finally confirmed that Lewis was serious.

"If you don\'t mind, I will impart my observation with you and your wife," he uttered, watching Lewis nod in interest. "Young Master, you and your wife... you two are acting like you are still getting to know each other."

"Because we are, Derek. We\'re newlywed couples," Lewis lied through the skin of his teeth, but Derek tilted his head.

"Young Master, did your mind change?"

"Huh?"

Derek raised his brows before the space between his brows wrinkled. "After the accident, Missus Lin was in her worst. Did you have second thoughts or were you overwhelmed seeing her in her worst?"

Lewis wanted to answer him and correct his assistant. But it would only sound ridiculous and would be a waste of time. So, he kept silent and Let Derek speak.

"When Missus Lin took her treatment seriously, she was starting to return to her old habits. If this continues, she will be back to her normal self. But Your Master, this is why I am asking you these questions. Do you only love the best version of herself and not her worst?"

And that caught Lewis\'s attention as his brows furrowed. Seeing the clueless expression on his boss\'s face, Derek slightly shook his head, along with a faint sigh. Derek slowly sat properly in his seat, taking his eyes away from Lewis.

"That\'s all I wanted to ask, Young Master."

Lewis stared at the back of the front passenger seat, tapping his fingers against his lap. They remained silent for a while before his lips parted, at the same time their car stopped in the stoplight.

"When you say she is starting to return to her old habits, did you mean before her she got her... amnesia?" he asked in a quiet voice, gazing down. His assistant didn\'t answer immediately as he calmly breathe in and out.

"Before and after," Derek answered in his usual stoic tone. "Missus Lin had been depressed for a long time. When she had amnesia, that made her forget things that usually trigger her. Hence, she was carefree."

"And now?" asked Lewis in the same low tone.

"Now... she is a good mix of both. Balance. She can now smile candidly, but she was aware of the condition of her mental health."

After Derek spewed his last remarks, Lewis\'s eyes softened. Listening to Derek made him realize it wasn\'t just him who noticed this. He didn\'t want to compare before because that would be an insult to both ladies, but this... made him conflicted.

Lewis didn\'t want to see Devon as the Devon he had fallen in love with. He didn\'t want to look at her and delude himself that she was the Devon he loved. Because that only means if he had fallen in love with her, he would doubt it himself. That would be unfair for Devon with him right now.

\'This is so complicated,\' he thought, lifting his eyes back to the window. \'I\'ve been trying to avoid and pretend not to notice that she... is acting more and more like her.\'

Silence enveloped the entire trip back to the old Qin Residence. Lewis\'s mind drifted far away and only realized they already arrived when Derek called.

He snapped his eyes, checking that they were already in the old Qin residence\'s driveway. He cleared his throat and opened the door.

"Take care," he said before closing the door, marching inside the house. With his hand inside his pocket, Lewis entered the manor to look for her. But before he could look for her in their room, he heard faint voices coming from the dining area. His brows furrowed, walking towards the dining hall carefully.

The closer he got, the more distinct the voices grew in his ear. He already knew who was there even before he reached the entrance of the dining room.

There, inside the dining hall, was Devon and all his brothers. Instead of stepping in, he leaned his side and just watched them, arms-crossed.

"Sis, how did you manage to cook?" Dion raised a question, staring suspiciously at the covered pot in the middle of the table.

"What do you mean, how? Is this because I can\'t still walk?" Devon clicked her tongue, staring at Dion in dismay. "Do you think you use your feet when cooking? Ansel and Rio helped me do the prepping and all while you and Kai did nothing but eat!"

"If you don\'t want, you can always order." Ansel chimed in, shrugging his shoulder nonchalantly at Dion and Kai.

"That\'s right. Sister-in-law wouldn\'t surely mind, right?" Rio nodded as he cast Devon a knowing look. The latter hummed a loud tune as she darted her eyes from Dion and Kai.

"Of course! Why would I need to force you?"

"That\'s not what I mean!" Dion gasped in distress as he was just asking a harmless question!

"Wait. I don\'t mind ordering, but is there an occasion why you cooked for the first time since you came in here?" this time, Kai answered, as he was rather suspicious of Devon\'s cooking. Who knows what sort of thing she put in there.

"That\'s the reason!" Devon blinked, staring at Kai as if he was dumb. "I\'ve been here and all I do is receive. I want to do something for my husband, of course. This is all I can do for now, but once my legs are healed, he will only work for fun."

Devon wiggled her brows as the four of them just stared at her blankly. "Also, Ansel\'s grades are good. So, two birds in one stone!"

As Devon talked, Lewis\' jaw tightened as his chest moved in and out heavily. Was it because of Derek\'s question? That he made aware of this?

\'Same reason when she cooked for me for the first time and... same reason when she wanted to work,\' he thought, calming his heart as he tried to deny these similarities. \'I can\'t think like this.\'

"Oh, Ge!" Suddenly, Kai finally noticed Lewis and raised his hand. As soon as Kai did, Lewis snapped his eyes and forced a smile, watching everyone around the table turn their head in his direction.

Since he was caught, Lewis trudged towards the table and stopped beside Devon. He gazed down at her while his smile persisted.

"You cooked?" he asked and a smug grin appeared on her lips.

"You\'ll see that I have a knack for everything." She winked before casting Rio and Ansel a knowing look. "Mind you, this is the first time I cooked something like this. Come sit, eat!"

Devon excitedly motioned for Lewis to sit down on the seat next to her. As he did, she opened the lid of the pot and grinned. When Lewis sat down, he froze when he saw the dish she made.

\'The same,\' he whispered in his head, but still stubbornly pretended that the same aroma and dish was just a coincidence. He watched her serve him some of it, placing it in front of him.

"Try it first," she suggested with a grin. "You\'re the special judge, so of course, I have to see your reaction first before these guys."

Lewis just stared at her excited front and sighed. "Alright."

As soon as he agreed, Devon and his brothers carefully watched him take up the spoon. Lewis only scooped the spoon and as he raised it, they all held their breath.

"So?" she asked in anticipation when Lewis had a taste. To their confusion, Lewis gazed down at the dish and before he knew it, tears rolled down his cheek.

\'It\'s the same,\' he answered internally, feeling the same emotions she put in this dish.
