The Hustler's Bride

Chapter 43 - The Heirs

"Sir, Lord Cephie and the others are back."

Prince Hiram froze when he heard the General\'s words. It took him a couple of minutes to digest what he said. "Jude and the others?"

"Yes, sir. The other heirs… they survive as well." N

Slowly, Prince Hiram\'s face darkened. He immediately got up from his seat and walk out of his tent. "Lead," he said in a low voice. The older general lead him towards the tent where the four great families and their healers are located.

"Welcome back… My Young Lords." The frown on the Prince\'s face vanished. A warm, welcoming smile replaced it. Seeing their pale faces and battered body, Hiram couldn\'t hide the sinister glint in his eyes. But still… he wondered. How come they are here? Why are they still alive? He personally wanted to see them so, he immediately came here.

"Your highness.." Old Man Cephie, who was standing next to Jude, immediately approached the Crown Prince. "Let\'s talk outside of the tent."

"Ah? Clan Head Cephie… you don\'t look too well. Did something happen?"

The old clan head pursed his lips as he nodded. However, he didn\'t say a word until they reached the tent where the other Clan Lords were staying. "For now, we don\'t want to divulge anything." Lord Cephie uttered. "We will report everything to the king."

"Report? Report what? Did something happen inside the forest?"

"We can\'t say for sure. The four of them have exhausted their elements. They could barely walk and were full of wounds. Even Jude wasn\'t able to heal himself."

\'But they are walking.\' Prince Hiram thought. \'Why are they still walking? No, why are they still alive?\' However, despite all the anger that he currently felt inside, he could only smile warmly on the outside. "Since it\'s like this, I will send my own healers to help out. It would be better for them to recover as fast as possible so they could immediately tell the king what was wrong this time."

"No need. The La Roche Family is sending their healers. So… we have more than enough."

"The La Roche Family?"

"Yes, your highness. Thank you so much for your concern, but he can take care of our own grandchildren."

The Crown Prince sighed. "I understand." He looked regretful as he left the tent. He couldn\'t really ask anything as he didn\'t want to reveal his involvement in this matter. All he could do now was wait for them to say something.

"Prince… it\'s confirmed. They no longer have the device in their bodies." The General whispered just before he walked inside the tent. Almost immediately, the atmosphere turned colder.

"You mean they removed it?"

"We can\'t say for sure. However, our people heard two healers talking about the fact that they weren\'t able to kill any demons because of the damaged tracker."

"Damaged? Then… get it. No matter the cost, get the trackers back." He couldn\'t let the four great clans have it. "If we can\'t have it, then… destroy it... Do everything to destroy any evidence. I don\'t care what you do as long as you keep it a secret. Do you understand?"

"Yes, sir."

Hiram couldn\'t help but stay inside his tent silently as he waited for the result. He couldn\'t just act now that they were already back in the camp. Right now, everyone is watching the Royals, waiting for them to make a mistake. The currents inside this kingdom are strong and chaotic. One mistake and the four great families might rebel against them.

"Sir, we already delivered the poison. It will be administered in their medicines tonight. The four of them won\'t wake up tomorrow."

"No traces?" Hiram asked.

The General nodded. "No traces. Even if they hired a priest that could identify and purify poisons, they won\'t be able to detect anything. By tomorrow morning, they are going to die."

"Good. As expected of you, General. Let\'s rest for now." Hiram waved his hand, silently telling the general to leave him alone. He needed some time to think. However, before the general could step out of the tent, a loud booming sound echoed. The General rushed towards the prince\'s side, protecting him.

"BOOM!"

The loud explosion made the ground tremble." Your highness… please don\'t leave the tent, I am going to check what is happening outside."

"No, let\'s check it together." Hiram was confident that no one would dare try to cause chaos right now. After all, the King was heavily guarded as well as the bishop who was staying in his own tent. Coming in here and causing chaos was akin to suicide.

"What was that? What is going on?" The General asked one soldier outside of their tents.

"Sir… it\'s the Clan Head of the La Roche Family."

"Huh?"

"He is… demanding an explanation from the King."

"BOOM!"

"Clan Head, don\'t go overboard! What do you think you are doing?"

"My granddaughter and the young lords of the other clans are in this state because of these assassins. We demand an explanation from the King!" Cadell La Roche roared. "My granddaughter saved the other four lords as she leads the assassins away from them. In the end, she suffered because of some explosion." His voice was loud enough for the entire camp to hear.

"Your highness… our young lords almost lost their lives because of these assassins. Please help us. Please give the La Roche family to investigate the matter." The Clan Head of the Cygnus Family said.

"I agree. Please… your highness," added the clan head of the Cephie family.

Hearing this, Hiram couldn\'t help but furrowed his brows. Cassandra actually saved the four lords? But how is that possible? He saw the tracker and saw the assassins weakened as they fought. That would be reasonable if they fought against four skilled people. However… how could a woman like Cassandra La Roche threaten their life?

"His highness…"

Hiram raised his hand, silencing the general. Those assassins are fire elemental wielders. Meaning, even if they fought against another fire element, they won\'t sustain that much damage, as their bodies are practically immune to fire.

So… how did Cassandra defeat those people?

Wait… could it be…
