The Hustler's Bride

Chapter 42 - Taking Care Of The Bodies

"What did you say?" Hiram\'s eyes almost popped out of its socket when he saw that the signal of the assassins vanished, almost at the same time. "Say it again!" he demanded.

"It looked like they died."

"At the same time?" How could they die at the same time? How is that even possible? "Activate Plan B. Make them explode."

"Sir?"

"I said activate PLAN B!" He was confident to put the device on those people because he could make it explode remotely. He was planning to use this technology to get rid of any evidence. "And… kill the others using the same method."

"Sir?"

"I said do it now!" As long as the device was still inside their bodies, then it would still explode even if part of it was already damaged. They programmed it that way.

"Sir… we can only make ten of them explode."

"Whatever, just do it." There is no way that the other people knew how each device could kill them. The only possibility is that those other people\'s bodies were already so badly damaged, the device doesn\'t recognize them as bodies anymore.

"Sir, we were able to activate eight of them. The other\'s suddenly wouldn\'t work anymore."

"Eight?" Hiram frowned. What about the other bodies? "Send someone to find them."

"Sir, it would be too risky to do it now. I am certain that a lot of people heard the explosion."

"Send people to check! If they can\'t avoid detection, then what\'s the use of training them secretly? Should I just kill them?"

"Understood, your highness."

Hiram squinted his eyes at the screen before he went back to his room. He wanted confirmation of their deaths, no, he wanted confirmation of their destruction before he would celebrate this victory.

....

"Why did you do that for?"

"Your Highness, are you worried about me?"

Hunter had a dark look on his face as he glared at the pale Cassandra. Despite the smile on the woman\'s face, beads of sweat can be seen on her forehead, her lips looked parched, her face as white as paper. When he found her earlier, she could barely walk from exhaustion. "Why did you have to show off? Are you crazy?"

"I have a plan."

"Stop it. Do you really like being carried like a princess?" he frowned as he made his way into the cave. "I have never met anyone who would injure themselves just for me to carry them."

"Your highness, your manliness is out of this world, your face was carved by the gods, even your smell is heavenly, any woman would want to be carried by someone like you." She chuckled before coughing.

"Tsk." Hunter looked uncomfortable when he saw some blood trickling down her lips. "Let them down, already! I will take care of it. We are close to the cave."

This time, she didn\'t argue, she quickly removed the fire that she used to carry the bodies of the assassins that she found earlier. "Give me an hour, after that, we should go down and create a scene."

"Why don\'t you take care of your recovery first? I am not going to leave this cave without you recovering a little bit of your fire." He slowly laid her in a makeshift mat made of dried leaves. Surprisingly, it felt warm and comfortable.

"Stay and sleep. Let me take care of the bodies."

Hearing this, Cassandra couldn\'t help but chuckle. "Yeah… yeah…" She deliberately exhaust her ability earlier as she needed it for her plan to work. Just the thought of it is making her a little bit excited. She slowly close her eyes and thought of her plans. To her surprise, this triggered another vision.

It was… a vision of Hiram — the crown prince. He was sitting inside a luxurious room, his face dark. He looked like he was about to kill someone. Was that because of her plan? Sadly, she couldn\'t hear what the crown prince was saying. Satisfied with the vision, her body relaxed, her breathing turned calm. She needed to recover as soon as possible.

Hunter squinted at Cassandra. He slowly extended his senses, making sure that her heartbeat is already calm before he left the cave. He looked at the pile of bodies not far away from the entrance of the cave before he raised his left hand. Almost immediately, a shadow appeared next to him. "Did you find out something?"

"The body belongs to a group from the south. They are a group of mercenaries that disappeared a few years back. They just resurfaced a few months back. This time, they are already stronger."

"Proof?"

"There was a tattoo on their backs. They tried to remove it, some of them kept it. They are known to burn the bodies of their victims, not even leaving their ashes. People call them SS or Scorched Scorpions. Rumor has it that they left the country, but this was never confirmed."

"And the people who followed us out of the safe zone?"

"The same group."

"Bodies?"

"We… already took care of them. No one will find their bodies."

"Good. Anything else?"

"The other four were about to exit the forest. We took care of the monsters and made sure that they would be able to return safely."

Hunter nodded. "Leave now. Take care of the monsters surrounding this area and gouge their eyes."

"Yes, your highness."

Seeing his subordinate gone, Hunter stood at the entrance of the cave and waited for Cassandra to wake up. Now that he thought about it, the woman was not only stupidly courageous; she was also very calculative and smart. After all, exhausting your strength to the point of almost dying is not something that many people could do.

This woman was smart enough to calculate the strength that she needed to bring those corpses and walk out of the safe zone. It was dangerous — really dangerous. And yet, the woman seemed… excited.

Wasn\'t she scared of death? One mishap and she could die.
