Chaos Divinity Tome

Chapter 30 - Like Heirlooms

Philip only chuckled in reply. His expression then turned serious as he approached the sphere in the middle of the square. He then stroked it slowly and had an impressed expression. "Step back everyone, outside the circle!" Philip instructed. All the elders nearby immediately retreated in unison and only Philip remained in the central square. A heavy aura then burst out of Philip's young body enveloping the whole courtyard. The elders were forced further back by the force. Even after cultivating to such impressive strength, they were still intimidated by this little boy beyond any hope of resisting. Philip's hands began to glow with light and the sphere in front of him reacted in line with the glow. Protrusions and spikes rose up and down along the surfaces of the sphere as Philips hands hovered and moved above it. A rumbling sound and mechanical sounds began to rumble from underneath the courtyard as the patterns and gems along the floor also began to glow intermittently. After several minutes, Philip lowered his hands and opened his shut eyes. The sphere also settled back into a smooth shape but remained glowing with intricate patterns. The patters then connected with the ones on the pillar supporting the sphere and spread into the courtyard floor, activating all the gems to glow and shine brightly. At the edge of the courtyard large totems had been installed, and they all began to twist and turn, some breathing fire and some glowing in the beast eyes curved into them. The villagers and elders of the Nyasanga Clan were all shocked and couldn't help but stare in awe at the impressive display. But this was not all, across the mountain, all the installed totems though smaller in size also reacted in a similar fashion. they all glowed in the eye sockets as if awake and twisted and turned, some spewing flames. A white fog began to gather at the base of the mountain, even though it was completely sunny a moment before. Higher up on the mountain,a white cloud descended and surrounded the mountain peak, thick fluffy clouds that were much higher up the mountain before.

"This is a [Sect Protection Array]." Philip declared proudly after he saw the clouds descend. "The fog at the base of the mountain is a [Misdirection Array]. Anyone who walks into it will find themselves lost and come out far away from the clan on the other side of the mountain, unless they have a clan token to ward off the effect. The low clouds are a [Concealment Array]. Experts with [Flight] will not be able to detect the clan from above, and the same goes for strong flying beasts, the effect of misdirection also apply inside the clouds. There are also [Killing Arrays], [Defence Arrays] and [Illusion Arrays] built in that will activate accordingly. This could be considered minimally acceptable for now, totems aren't the most efficient but it is what you can build with your current skills. " Philip then turned and headed toward his cave in a casual pace. "Ensure the tokens are distributed well, we don't want anyone getting lost." He waved his hand as he disappeared inside.

"Yes, Young Master!" Chief Saito bowed towards the entrance after snapping out of his daze. he was incredibly dumbfounded. Not just him, the other elders and the villagers had yet to collect their jaws off the floor. Chief Saito recovering enough to reply could even be considered a show of his high mental fortitude. A [Sect Protection Array]! He knew the totems were important since the designs were so complex but this was on a whole other level! Who would have thought tat this kid was roaming around the whole mountain for this purpose? What was a Sect? These were things of legend! Powerhouses full of immortal experts! And in all the legends what would leave a lasting impression was the terrifying defences laid down at sect headquarters. Sect Wars were so exaggerated it was hard to believe these things when one heard them, but they made for great bedtime stories. Yet here it was right in front of their eyes. Proof that the stories weren't just stories. How could they not be shocked. "Alright show is over! Sir Charles handle the distribution." Chief Saito yelled out loud to snap everyone back to reality. Elder Charles blushed in embarrassment but immediately put on a stoic face and got to work. Clan workers were sent out and returned with several large trunks that were tightly sealed. Charles personally unlocked each one with a key he wore as a necklace. When the lids were lifted a brilliant green light jumped out at the villagers. As their eyes adjusted they were greeted with cases full of small green jade tokens. The small rectangular jade pieces had a dragon engraved on on side with a circle with a complex lotus pattern on the other. There was a braided leather string attached to make it a necklace. All the villagers queued up in an orderly manner in front of the cases and everyone soon received a necklace. Upon wearing the necklace, a feeling like an invisible weight and pressure had lifted off their shoulders was felt. Some people even took of and put on the necklace a few times to test the effect. It really was a fascinating device. Some daring guys even went off the mountain, took off the necklace and walked into the fog to see if they would really get lost. One could barely see ten meters ahead without the necklace and by the time they gave up trying to walk through the fog and finally put it on, they found themselves miles and miles off the path to the village, on the other side of the mountain. Shockingly, there was no fog at all with the necklace on and the paths were perfectly clear. Not only that, they had been drifted into the end of the mountain with dangerous wild beasts! A cold sweat immediately dripped down their collective backs and they quickly backtracked to go and inform the villagers of their findings. After this fresh batch of news and investigation spread everyone started to treat their necklaces like heirlooms. Taking it off, was than not simply seeking death?
