Wild Young Princess: Mister, let's sleep?

Chapter 28:How the new Devon resolves things

Devon watched shows after shows while enjoying the popcorn. As she did, she could not help but notice Lewis.

He had been walking back and forth from the kitchen to the balcony. He had brought a glass of wine with him at first, and then went back to the kitchen to get some snacks.

And now, from the balcony, Lewis returned. This time, the second Devon heard his footsteps, she turned her head in his direction.

"My friend?" She called out without a second hesitation.

She studied his face. His cheek colored with a light shade of red, his eyes drooping. It didn't seem he had consumed too many drinks.

He seemed more relaxed. It relieved her, but at the same time, worried her.

"What?" Lewis cocked his head to her as he trudged towards the couch she was sitting on.

"Uhm…" Devon watched as he perched on the armrest — opposite her.

"Do you want more popcorn?" He asked, raising his brows.

After having three glasses of wine, Lewis found his tranquility. It was a hobby of his to drink at least a glass of wine every night. Hence, he could hold his liquor well.

Well, for someone who already did extreme methods just to fall asleep, Lewis was already a veteran. He had lived past the stage of drowning himself with alcohol.

Still, he could not deny that his heart only calmed down a little. But he had to act that he had his emotions under control; the wine helped him a little.

She tilted her head to the side, blinking. Devon had been a little sleepy. But the shows kept her up. However, she knew she had to put him to sleep.

"Ahh…" Upon hearing her remarks, Lewis' ears burned.

'Damn.' He cursed internally, taking deep breaths. 'She shouldn't say it like that.'

"Hmm?" Devon raised her brows, a little confused at his disinterest. "Aren't you sleepy?"

"No. I slept last night. So, I won't tonight." Upon snapping back from his thoughts, Lewis waved nonchalantly.

"Also, it's good to have a bed all for yourself tonight."

"You won't sleep?" She frowned, biting her lower lip.

Lewis arched his brows as he glanced at her. Seeing her a dejected reaction made him sigh helplessly.

'How can she have no sense of danger?' He wondered internally. He then massaged the space above his brow.

"It is my duty to make sure you have a peaceful sleep." Devon placed her palm across her chest. Her eyes fixed on him.

"How dare I sleep without fulfilling my duty?"

"…" For a moment, Lewis couldn't articulate his thoughts.

Just by staring at her, he could tell she was determined. A strong sense of responsibility brimmed in her eyes. But for some reason, it didn't please him.

"I appreciate that you're worried about my sleep. But, it's my decision. I don't feel like sleeping, so don't feel you're not doing your job." Lewis barely kept a straight face.

Inside his heart, he truly thanked the wine for lending him courage. His heart had been very unstable.

Therefore, he didn't want to do something stupid while they're on the bed. This relationship between them that was bound by a contract was too fragile.

Especially now with her condition. Lewis had to be wary of himself. His actions could scare her — worse, traumatize her — if he overdid it. He should stay on the safe side.

Devon stared at him for a long time. She didn't speak or did the slightest gesture. Her eyes just remained on him for a long time. For a very long time.

"What?" He inquired upon sensing that she had been staring for too long.

"You stare a lot…" she replied with eyes not shying away. "… I wonder why you're suddenly avoiding me like a plague."

He flinched slightly. His lips parted, but no words came out.

Lewis was aware Devon was quick-witted, sometimes silly and cute. However, that was because she knew too little. Yet he didn't expect her to be straightforward as well.

'Right… she's always been straightforward. Even though she lost her memories, this trait is already deep in her bones. It's part of her nature.' Lewis sighed, nodding in understanding.

With that thought in mind, he slid down and perched on the corner of the couch. He rested his leg over the other, his back propped against the armrest, crossing his arm, his attention solely to her.

"Before, you told me to see you as a pillow. A thing who is naturally present around the bedroom so to make it less awkward for us."

Lewis explained almost tonelessly.

"But now, I can't seem to think like that anymore. I just realized you're a woman and I'm a man. Even if I don't like it, instincts are hard to resist. I told you what a man does to get what they want."

Since it came into this, Lewis figured he had to be honest with her. It'll only create more problems in the future if he kept what's bothering him from her.

"I'm protecting the trust we built from something... fleeting." He affirmed solemnly. "I hope you understand."

Although Lewis didn't say it directly, it was enough to get his point across. Devon kept quiet as she pondered about it.

When she blinked, she nodded, as she had decided. "Is that so?"

"Yes. So go, if you're sleepy. I will find another solution to this unprecedented problem. It won't be long until I can see you as a pillow again." He nodded encouragingly, finding peace after letting his worries out in the open.

Devon slowly stood from her seat. Lewis heaved a sigh of relief as he leaned back languidly.

Just as he did, Devon offered her hand to him. His brows instantly furrowed as he slowly gazed up at her.

"I told you…" He trailed off as she abruptly cut him off.

"The trust we built before is null since I can't remember it. If you can't trust yourself, how can I trust you?" Devon, although still looked innocent, her tone was absolute.

"Let's build our trust from scratch. But this time, not as objects that can be normally seen in the bedroom. Isn't that an insult to you if I see you as an object as well?"

Lewis's jaw slightly dropped as he stared at her straight in the eye. His heart raced once again, pounding against his chest.

"Right…" He murmured, reaching his hand to her unknowingly.

'Why...? are you doing this to me?'
