The Tale Of Three Sisters

Chapter 16 - Beautiful Night

They found a clearing near the road and stop for the night.

They eat dinner facing the bonfire in companionable silence, devouring the fish they roasted earlier along with the leftover rice.

They were surrounded by darkness as they were the only creature occupying that area.

The only thing that produces light was the burning bonfire.

They finished eating dinner and disposed of their trash. After done with everything, they stared at each other in silence

"You want to retire inside the wagon and rest?" he asked her after some time.

"Ah, not yet. I still want to gaze at the stars above," she looked heavenward and admired the dazzling stars shining in the sky above.

"The stars are lovely today," he observed.

"Let\'s engaged in stargazing!" she exclaimed.

His brows furrowed. "What do you mean by stargazing?" he asked in confusion.

Kate smiled in amusement. "It means, lying down on the ground, looking and admiring the stars above, that\'s what I call stargazing," she explained.

"Ah, I get it now, observing the stars above. What is there to see about the stars?" he murmured scratching his head.

Kate was shaking her head. "It doesn\'t matter, you do your thing and I will also do mine. Right now, I just want to gaze at the stars in all it\'s glory," she smiled inwardly. "Wow, look at the spectacular display of light!" squealing, she pointed at the clusters of stars on the west side of the sky.

She was about to lay down on the grassy ground...

"Wait! I will get a cloth for you to lay down so that you won\'t soil your clothes," he said and sprinted towards the wagon, grabbing his black bag, he took out a 6 meters wide piece of clothing made from a leopard skin.

He went back to the bonfire and placed the garment on the ground. "You may lay down now," he said softly.

"Thank you for taking good care of me," she said and bestowed him her sweetest smile.

"My pleasure," he replied and smiled back in return.

They were lying at the opposite end of the bonfire, both staring at the starry sky above.

"Such a beautiful night," she muttered to herself.

"Not as beautiful as you..." he said.

They looked at each other and smiled.

Kate\'s smile lingered in her face for a long time.

"Do you have a boyfriend, Kate?" he asked all of a sudden.

Kate shook her head. "No. I never had a boyfriend," she revealed. She glanced at him. "How about you? Do you have someone in your heart right now?" she asked curiously.

Ramza shook is head. "I don\'t have a girlfriend right now," he answered.

A pleasant smile appeared on Kate\'s lips. She wondered why she feels happy after knowing that he didn\'t have a girlfriend.

They fell into silent mode while enjoying the beauty of heavens above.

Kate shut off her eyes.

One hour later she had fallen asleep in the ground while Ramza was staring at her face intensely.

"Kate...Kate...are you sleeping?" he asked.

She\'s no longer replying to his question.

Ramza stood up and went to her side and touched her arms lightly. "Hey..."

She had fallen asleep!

He slowly lifted her sleeping form and brought her inside the wagon. He gently placed her sleeping body into the wooden floor.

"Goodnight, sweet dreams!" he murmured into her ear.

She moaned a bit in her sleep.

Right now, he just wanted to continue staring at her pretty face. He could spend the rest of the night looking at her face. He likes being close to her. Her presence makes him happy. It\'s the kind of happiness that he doesn\'t normally experience every day.

He wanted to bring her back home with him into the winged creatures realm and show her how beautiful his world is. He was sure, she will like his home.

They only meet each other for a short time, but it feels like they have known each other for a long time. They feel at ease with each other, no awkward moments between them.

Ramza stared at her face for a long time. He wanted to kiss her kissable lips. Then envelope her in a sweet embrace. He wanted to sleep beside her not wanting to spend another minute away from her side.

Before he can think of something naughty, he quickly exited the wagon.

The moment his feet landed on the ground, he already knew that he got company.

He saw Zemeth standing tall near the bonfire, his silver wings start fading away from his back.

"Did you just arrived here?" he asked.

Zemeth shook his head. "I\'ve been around the vicinity for a while, I just didn\'t alert you of my presence. I don\'t want to interrupt your romantic moment with Kate," he answered, smirking while looking at his friend. "You look smitten with her. Am I right?"

Ramza didn\'t reply, he only smiled. The truth is — he feels happy seeing her happy. He loves her innocence and her smiles. He adored everything about her.

"I\'m feeling happy when I\'m spending time with her," he answered honestly.

Zemeth grinned. "Is it a love bug?" he asked.

Ramza stared back at him. "How about what you feel for Ivy—? What is it then?"

Zemeth shrugged. "Infatuation — maybe? How am I supposed to know? I have not fallen in love with any woman yet," he reasoned out.

Ramza asked, "Did you missed her?"

A sad smile flashed across Zemeth\'s face, he prefers not to answer the question.

Ramza looked at his friend\'s sad face. "You fall for that woman...yet... you let her go, why?" he asked.

"How can you tell that I fall for Ivy?" Zemeth asked him back.

"I love a woman of our kind once when I\'m younger and lose her to another guy. The expression I saw in your face right now... that sadness... is the same," Ramza said pointing his index finger at his friend\'s face.

Zemeth smirked. "And look at you now, you\'re like a guy in love!"

Ramza\'s face broke into a bittersweet smile. "We\'re here for a mission. Why did we develop feelings for the two sisters?" He\'s now asking himself why.

"Anyways, when our mission will be over and leave the mortal realm, we will remember our escapades here and all these will become a part of our past... and forgotten...buried in the deepest part of our memory," Zemeth said confidently.

Ramza nodded his head in agreement. "Yeah. Just let me enjoy the remaining days with her," he said.

"No problem. Just make sure that on the 3rd day, during the time she will go up to the castle on the hill, you won\'t follow her, or else our mission will fail. We\'re here to execute our mission and not be attached to mortal women. You understand me?" Zemeth looked at him.

Ramza nods his head. "Alright, I know where I stand," he replied with a gloomy expression on his face.

"Besides... the girls are destined for the castle on the hill, we can\'t alter their destiny," Zemeth concluded.

Ramza took a deep breath, feeling despondent.

"I\'m taking my leave now. Take care of the girl," Zemeth said and disappeared from the clearing.

Ramza took out his sleeping bag made of sheep\'s skin and placed it on the ground a few meters away from the bonfire.

He looked at the wagon and waved his hand, covering the entire vehicle with a protective transparent orb. He did the same to himself.

The magical orb will protect the wagon and him from any invaders. No one can enter the orb without waking him up first.

He settled in his sleeping bag and shut off his eyes, preparing to sleep.

A few minutes later, Ramza had fallen asleep comfortably in his sleeping bag.
