The Restless Spirit's Father

Chapter 269 - His Life is Pretty Important

Not only did Guangru not pay attention to her, but the child even looked like he had reverted into a silent tree. Li Feng was left to stare at the woman right at her eyes. Suck him dry? Sorry, even if it was his blood that she wanted, he didn't want to give it. However, it was not like he had a choice. Without Guangru to help him, what could a powerless Li Feng do?

"Senior, why do you want my blood so badly? It's not pure anymore." Li Feng thought that maybe… if he could make her not want it anymore, he could be safe from her. Besides, it was true. His blood had been mixed with Liu Xiaodan's blood, and this was even his gateway in coming to Li Feng's aid. Still, the woman only gave him a smile.

"It is pure. I can smell it from a distance. Feng'er, why are you still lying to me? You're dying today, and not even your powerful Mommy or Daddy can save you." Mian Qingwei laughed out before jumping towards Li Feng. As she flew to him, her body had changed into what seemed to be a bat. Her skin stretched to form her wings, and Li Feng was left to fend for himself.

Bang! Her body heavily landed on the floor. Li Feng rolled out of the way even if his body was barely functional from all the additional holes in it. The more he moved, the more he aggravated his wounds. It's just that… what could he do? There's no way he could do more to this woman. It's just that Li Feng was left to his own devices—which wasn't much. What could he do, really?

"Guangru! Please wake up! Help me!" Li Feng pleaded the child. "Xiaodan is gone, but that doesn't mean what forced you to hurt him is already dead!" Even if he wasn't supposed to patronage revenge, the very person who started all of this continued to triumph over them.

Right, Wu Zhong was still out there, breathing and looking forward to getting through the night.

Guangru lifted his head, but his eyes did not really brighten with life. He didn't seem to be inspired by revenge. Still, the child continued to stay quiet, holding the body of his father in his arms.

"Guangru..." Li Feng called out again. Dammit, the child wouldn't snap out until someone tried to kill him. Right now, that was Li Feng's situation. He needed to make Guangru move. Else, the next person to die would be him.

"Feng'er…?! Where are you?" A voice echoed outside, and Mian Qingwei felt that the person was also looking for her food. Soon, her gaze landed on that woman with young looks and in a pink sweater shirt.

The smile on her lips bloomed as she stared at Li Feng. However, why did it look like he was about to cry? No matter, she was there to make a proposal, and Li Feng wouldn't be able to refuse her. Qiao Shan then made a happy gasp, her hands clapping in joy from the bottom of her heart. "Feng'er, I came to fetch you. Let's kill Xiaodan and get married!"

Kill Xiaodan? Li Feng froze when he was about to run to Qiao Shan. Why did her words sound so awful? Why did they need to kill Xiaodan before getting married? Couldn't they just jump right into kowtowing three times? He actually realized that something was wrong with Qiao Shan, but he didn't want to think too much about it. She was now here to save him, right?

"Qiao Shan, there's no need to kill Xiaodan." Li Feng was supposed to say more, but Guangru seemed to react to her words. His strange growl took Qiao Shan's attention, and she actually took a glance in his direction. That was how the body was revealed to her.

"...is that Liu Xiaodan? Why is he dead already?" Qiao Shan wasn't able to tone down her playful voice when she said that. However, it was because… to her, Xiaodan was a monster. Why was he dead right now?

A strange pang roared through her c.h.e.s.t all of a sudden. Chuan Nayi stood outside the perimeter of the facility. The stale water and the stench of the toxic marsh were suffocating, but those were not the ones responsible for the reason why she couldn't breathe. Liu Xiaodan and Li Feng continued to be inside, unaware of the impending doom. Her eyes looked away from the small boat in front of her, readying for its venture.

"Miss Nayi, we have to leave." Du Zhizhuo called out even if some mercenaries were still waiting with her by the shallow dock by the rocks. "Dr. Jiu will be waiting for them. Let's leave now."

"I won't go without Xiaodan. Go on, save everyone else," Chuan Nayi answered decisively. No matter what, she wanted to wait. It didn't matter which outcome she had to deal with. If Liu Xiaodan fell in this place, at least she would know if she had a blood debt to collect from Wu Zhong.

Du Zhizhuo only signaled the boat's captain. The boat then began to move, its engine almost as quiet as a growling dog. However, Chuan Nayi's eyes narrowed. Some people… seemed to be running towards them. One man then waved his hand, his obnoxious voice echoing in the bog.

Sun Yinxie screamed, "Wait! You bastards, wait for us!" It was not only him; he was actually with five more people. They all looked like administrative workers of the facility. Behind them were roaring guns, the soldiers still firing at something that was chasing them.

"Bastards! You can ignore me, but please take him to the hospital! I'm begging you!" Sun Yinxie was actually carrying his father. His belly was slashed at, but it didn't dig deep like someone pulled him away just in time.

"Get on board." Jiu Yuanli sent word, and so Sun Yinxie was let in. Nurse Miao and the other nurses were shocked at his return, but with the bleeding director in his arms, they knew what exactly to do. This time, that was a real human in their hands. The mercenary doctor then noticed the gazes given by Du Zhizhuo and Chuan Nayi. "I'm not being a 'doctor'. I'm saying… that's Director Sun. His life is pretty important."

"Why?" Chuan Nayi almost snorted. Why would a man like him be saved?

Jiu Yuanli smiled. "We need his signature for Xiaodan's official release. Don't you think?"

However, just when everyone new boarded the last boat, they finally saw what the soldiers were shooting at. It was a woman in a yellow traditional dress. Her face was covered by a fringe, and her mouth had an eye on it. Moreover, there were seven copies of her, dashing and being deflected by the exploding blessed shells from the soldier's shotguns. Seeing the woman, the captain drove off without another word.
