The Restless Spirit's Father

Chapter 156 - Mommy will be so Full

Li Feng arrived at the parking lot, and Ruan Jin was giving him a strange glare. He frowned back at the hors.e.m.e.n before climbing inside the family van. Ren Shanyue was on her phone while Chuan Nayi was only passing time with her hot drink. The heir actually bought breakfast meals from the diner next to the coffee shop as if appeasing those who were waiting. However, he realized in an instant that Qiao Shan was not around.

Ruan Jin reached out and collected his share from the peace offering. "Qiao Shan isn't coming. She told Shanyue that the Qiao family are sending their members altogether. We'll just see her in the place after this."

"Okay." Li Feng felt strange and a little sad. He then handed Ren Shanyue her part before he reached out for Chuan Nayi. The females caught his loud disappointment, but they didn't say anything. Since Li Feng was already here, the driver rolled out of parking and drove to the designated meeting place for the participants.

It was in one of the medium-sized function venues in the city. It didn't look festive or welcoming, perhaps because it was not a happy event. People who would be there came for the sake of science, and they might not even come back alive. Multiple cars were pulling up in their parking, and the driver was quick to spot a vacant space for their family van.

Ren Shanyue and Li Feng wore aviators in an attempt to hide their faces, but they still looked like a couple of celebrities touring the city in secret. Well, it was no secret that both of them acted on Li Feng's films before so they did live with that vibe. As for the other two, they were so okay with staying behind the camera. The four walked inside, and Ren Shanyue presented their invitations.

After wearing the passes, they quickly found their seats on the third row when everyone was choosing to sit on the back rows. Both Ren Shanyue and Li Feng were from prominent families so they never shied away from the spotlight, and never had they been seated far from the main stage.

Strangely, the allotted chairs were just as many as the guests with their invitations. The latecomers refused to take the seats in front and stood around in hopes that more chairs would be given.

"Hm? Look at that man who's supposed to be dead. Sticking out like a sore thumb." A man from outside took a look inside and chuckled upon seeing the front-most guests which were Li Feng's group. He then walked in and gazed at the other ushers in the area. He stopped next to them and took a good look at Chuan Nayi before gazing at Li Feng. "Mr. Li, please occupy the front seats. They wouldn't be moving any closer."

"!?" Li Feng took a look and quickly recognized Song Qixi. He had only seen the sergeant once when he came to accompany his father to speak with Liu Xiaodan. "Sergeant Song? Y-You're here?"

"Is it really strange to have people who grew up with the occult to be dedicated in projects related to it?" Song Qixi didn't really expect Li Feng to recognize him. However, taking into account that this was Li Heilong's son, Song Qixi dropped the suspicion. He then gazed at Chuan Nayi again, noticing that she pushed the allotted chair so she could sit comfortably in her wheelchair. "Did you request for a nurse to assist you in there?"

Chuan Nayi didn't like the look of this man's face. Even with a concerned expression, his eyes remained to be too sharp for her liking. This was a villain, and Chuan Nayi decided it in her heart. She only smiled. "I can manage on my own. If ever I need one, should I look for Sergeant Song?"

The man blinked, feeling something strange about this woman. However, given that this was Guangru's prospective mother, Song Qixi didn't want to waste the opportunity to get acquainted with her. He reciprocated the smile. "I will recommend one for you." He then moved the chairs and rolled Chuan Nayi's wheelchair himself. "Mr. Li, if you don't mind..."

After a few more shuffling and chattering, the chairs were all filled. Chu Youlan ran a facial recognition system scan for everyone seated and noted that everyone who registered had arrived. She then handed Song Qixi some folders before he walked to the screen and started the orientation. In fact, this was supposed to be Fan Meiling's job, but she had to fly right back to the facility.

Song Qixi pulled on his collar and cleared his throat. He then took the stage and started with introductions: "Good morning, participants. This is the mandatory orientation of Project Red Scales, and we will be discussing needed know-hows about the medical facility and its premises."

He first discussed the history of the project and the state of where it was now. The two projects had been stalled for a while because of the lack of suitable participants and tests. However, they were getting closer to developing a scientific guide for psychic power and the ability to see spirits. It was also the same for those who carried entities inside them: how to manage the haunting.

The presented things were just a preview of what Ren Shanyue discussed with them about the projects. However, in Chuan Nayi's mind, she kept on comparing these projects to the things Liu Xiaodan could do. Perhaps, he had mastered these two things, and so he was assigned to a bigger project. Even if she wanted to ask about Red Justice, she was scared to be tagged.

The meeting lasted for two hours, and the participants all had their handbooks and kits for the identification system in the facility. After a few more minutes, they were all asked to ride two buses to ferry them to the facility. RS Moses was separate from RS Noah, and Ruan Jin didn't have to be so lonely since Ye Ling was with him. They didn't have to worry about Chuan Nayi as well because Li Feng was with her.

It's just that… not everyone in those buses was passive creatures.

Ren Shanyue waved at them and stood around to watch the buses leave. The luggage of each participant would be taken by a different vehicle, and so they only needed to be concerned about themselves. When Ruan Jin got on the bus, the people already inside stared wide-eyed at him. He didn't care about them because he knew that it was quite impossible to contain a transcending greater ghost, and yet there Ye Ling stayed inside his body.

He sat down at a window seat, and no one wanted to sit next to him. The ghost burdens within the rest of them were so afraid of Ye Ling that most passengers were wincing in pain. Ruan Jin could only sigh and live with this kind of torture. Soon, a small girl actually sat next to Ruan Jin. He turned to her and noticed that she had strange markings on her neck. 'Huh? Ghost scratches? Poor kid...'

"Hungry..." Ruan Jin lifted his brows when he heard her say. "I'm getting hungry. So many ghosts inside one bus… hee-hee, Mommy will be so full."
