The Hustler's Bride

Chapter 36 - The Floating Fire

A small boy was staring straight at them.

A ripped piece of clothing covered his body as he used his hand to wipe the tears from his chubby cheek. This was the child that she saw in her vision. Just what is going on here?

"Is that — " Before she could finish her words, Hunter already disappeared from her side. Cassandra blinked, and the next thing she saw, the prince was standing in front of the child, a sword in his hand. "Stop! Hey, Hunter! Stop!"

"What?" Hunter glared at the child. "What are you doing?"

"That child…"

"Is a dark one."

"What?" The boy\'s eyes were not red! Horror registered in her eyes when another vision flashed. "Get away from him!" She didn\'t have much time, she used her fire to create some distance between the child and Hunter. On the outside, it looked like she was trying to attack him.

"What the hell are you doing!?"

"Get away from him."

"What the— "

The sound of cracking bones interrupted his words. He jumped back and stood next to her. The two watched as the boy\'s eyes turned white. The boy suddenly started clawing his throat as he opened his mouth in a silent scream. Seeing this, hesitation vanished in Cassandra\'s eyes as she pulled him behind her and cast a spell that would create a shield made of fire.

*SWOOSH!*

A large flame protected them from the explosion that followed.

Soon, the smell of burnt rotten flesh wafted towards their noses. Cassandra immediately removed the shield and stared at the remains of the child that were now scattered on top of the ground.

"What was that?" Hunter asked, his face dark.

"I don\'t know."

"How did you know he would explode?"

"I thought he would attack us, so I created a shield," she lied before she looked towards her left. "We have no time left. We should leave."

"Why?"

"Something is… chasing that kid."

Hunter stared at the piles of flesh before staring at her. "I will take you to that place next time."

"Next time?" she asked herself. What next time? This place is already beyond the border. It is naturally more dangerous. Naturally, she isn\'t planning to visit this place again! The two started running away from the place.

Just as they disappear, the area surrounding the flesh of the small child withered.

Of course, the two are already unaware of this. They were… busy arguing to even notice that minor change.

"Since we no longer have the device to record the numbers of demons that we killed, then… what are we going to do?" Hunter asked.

"Why are you asking me?"

"You removed it. So… it is only right that you find new ways to record our kills."

Cassandra frowned. "Let\'s take its eyes and carry it."

"You want this prince to carry bloody eyes of monsters?"

"Ah, so you want your fiance to carry it?"

"Hmph! Since no one is going to carry those things, then we find another alternative!"

Cassandra didn\'t say anything. Honestly, she never thought that she could match the pace of the prince while running. Compared to him, she was certain that he was stronger and faster. Meaning, this man was purposely running slower for her. While doing this, she was also trying to check her surroundings.

Right now, she couldn\'t feel any monsters or demons nearby. Despite them still, outside of the Zone, there were no demons or dark ones around. To her, this was already suspicious. After all, demons could smell Hunter. "We should continue hunting outside of the Safe Zone," she suggested. The reason why she was doing this is that she didn\'t want other people to know that this arrogant prince is a demon magnet.

"Agree."

"So about the demon."

"I have a way. It is a bit flashy though." Cassandra uttered.

"Flashy? As long as it\'s not some firework then it should be fine."

"If you say so." Cassandra shrugged.

Soon, Hunter realized how wrong it is to assume that they have the same definition of flashy. He stared at Cassandra — to be more specific; he was staring at the ball of flames following them around. He didn\'t even know that Cassandra could actually use the fire as some sort of bag! Of course, the smell of burnt flesh accompanied this… innovation.

By now, they already killed two demons. Cassandra took the demon\'s eyes, then put them inside a ball of flame that was floating around her. He asked her if this was the way that she was talking about and she only responded with another shrugged.

This woman was really hateful!

"There is a pack of demonic wolves two hundred meters away from us." Cassandra suddenly said.

"A pack?"

"Yes. About thirty to forty."

"I am going to kill them. Don\'t use your fire. It\'s too flashy."

"…" Cassandra stopped running and looked at Hunter\'s serious expression. "Alright." Since this man didn\'t want her to fight then, she won\'t. After all, running around with some fire following them is exhausting even for someone like her. She needed some time to rest, too. "I will watch you kill them." Just now, Cassandra already saw that the Prince could handle the packs of demonic wolves easily. So, she chose to have some rest.

She sat on one of the large roots of the towering trees around them and signaled the speechless Hunter to begin.

"The wolf is already coming our way. If you want to kill them, then you should prepare yourself."

"…" Hunter looked at her, disbelief flashed in his eyes. Seeing this, Cassandra wondered if he was waiting for her to say that she was going to fight along with him. But isn\'t that a little too dramatic? Did he really think she would decline his offer?

So, Cassandra sat under the tree and watched Hunter killed the wolves that were already as tall as him. Seeing that the Wolf King was not one of the wolves that surrounded Hunter, Cassandra looked around, and just as she expected, the Wolf King was standing far away from the wolves. He was glaring at Hunter.

Seeing this, Cassandra laughed inwardly. She didn\'t see Hunter fight the Wolf King in her vision. However, since Hunter said that she could rest, then she is going to rest.

Unless, of course, he is going to ask for her help.
