Siana

86 The Aftermath

Paul was slightly taken aback by Luke's question. Thinking it over, he soon realised that it was only his boss asking a question about a woman who could potentially be good looking, so it was pretty normal.

"I haven't really investigated but I can get it for you today if you are interested," he said with an eye roll.

"Nah, actually forget about it. However, do find me someone, I am in quite the good mood afterwards."

"Will do," Paul nodded in understanding, "anything else?"

"No, that's fine. Just get those things done," he said calmly, however, upon closer look one would notice how his eyes have become a shade darker, "I am not gonna let Cain even have the chance to retaliate against me."

- Central Hospital, Ribekia -

As today was an outpatient day, Sia was done with her rounds in the afternoon. Returning back to her office, she took her phone and started dialing Attorney Clare's number. Her call was answered as soon as it went through and before she could even talk, she heard Attorney's enthusiastic voice:

"Hi Big Boss! I was going to call you with good news but you beat me to it," started Ben in a rush. The next moment, as if realising how rude it might have sounded he hurried on to explain with an awkward chuckle, "hahah, sorry, I was overexcited and didn't even keep my manners."

Siana was actually taken aback from the start of this call: she had had some interactions with attorney Ben Clare and was on somehow familiar terms with him, so she knew he was a busy man. So why was he so free as to immediately pick up her call? Secondly, wasn't he supposed to be a very serious person, so what was up with his manner of speech? And finally, and most importantly, what was up with addressing her a 'Big Boss'!?

"Big Boss?" she ended up blurting her question, afterall, when did she become his boss, let alone some big boss? Wasn't it Cain who was his boss? Even if she was dating Cain, she would at most be the 'Lady Boss' not some 'Big Boss', right?

"Hahah, well, you are my Boss' Boss, so you are the Big Boss, no?" As if afraid that she wouldn't get him he went on, "I mean, you are the only one that can actually Boss that mons... I mean your boyfriend around, so that makes you the Boss of my Boss, or my Big Boss!"

Left speechless for a good few seconds, Sia could only change the topic,

"So what were your updates?"

Finally getting to the best part of the talk, Ben excitedly started,

What Ben missed out was that when the king of Silverine learned that his daughter had offended the same woman who William Harding had feelings for, and who turned out to be the woman of Cain Greydale, he almost had a heart attack. He hadn't fought so hard for the position of the king for his daughter to go and ruin everything. Naturally he was more than happy for his daughter to be with the Harding heir, but that wasn't enough for him to go against the Dragon of the Underworld. So he suggested the solution himself, and even offered some apology gifts, which Ben naturally didn't refuse.

Thinking of the gifts, Ben continued, "the Silverine Royal Family will also be donating 5 billion Ribekian Pounds to the orphanages and the elderly houses in Ribekia anonymously, which will be used to better the state of the facilities and the living conditions of the orphans and elderly."

Slightly surprised Sia probed, "how did that come about?"

Of course she wouldn't believe if he said that it was purely the king's suggestion, as, if that was the case, he would rather publicize himself and make him appear a benevolent king, rather than doing everything anonymously.

Catching her train of though, Ben was excited to present all his hard effort to her,

"He actually wanted to pay you directly, but I made it clear to him that the emotional damage that was caused to you could not be compensated by a mere few billions. Ahahaha, you should have seen his face when he learned who your boyfriend was. After that he basically turned into a cute little puppy ready to carry on any instructions to please you. So I simply told him how worried you are about the state of the orphans and the elderly, and he himself suggested everything. I swear, I never coerced him into doing anything: it was all him."

Flabbergasted at his antics, Sia didn't feel like prying more into this topic, so she just let it be. The solution was to her liking and she knew that however childish Ben behaved now he was in fact a lawyer with integrity, so there wasn't much to worry about his methods. However, there was still one last thing to be clarified;

"So why did she target me to begin with?"

The 'she' Sia meant naturally referred to the princess, and Ben realized it immediately. However, how was he supposed to tell her that it was because of her suitors? Even he found this love triangle a mess... tut tut, it wasn't even a triangle because his Big Boss held no feeling towards that bastard, it was just a one sided fantasy of two people. On that note, those two did make a good couple: they both were despicable.

"Most probably she was jealous of your beauty and fame, so she acted rashly," he tried his best to brush off the situation, but even he found his excuse lame.

And if he was next to Sia, he would have had the chance to see her eyeroll at his idiotic explanation. Thinking of all the people around her and any possible connection they could have with the princess, Sia suddenly felt enlightened;

"Does it have to do with William Harding?"

He should have been really stupid to try and fool the genius, so all the world famous attorney Clare could do was to give a shallow chuckle as an answer. However, that laugh alone was enough proof to Sia that her conjecture was right.

"Alright, I get it. Thanks for your hard work."

She didn't need any more details, she wasn't new to women's jealousy so she didn't need more unnecessary details on some crazy woman. As long as the woman learnt her lesson and left her alone, she couldn't even bother to think of her. The princess was just someone passing through her life: a small interlude with no remarkable influence on her.

Getting her answers and after bidding Ben farewell, she could thus finally go back to her usual life.

Or so she thought...
