Novel - Comeback of the Abandoned Wife

Chapter 216

Since those people came, they had cost him countless money and precious herbs and nothing worked. Their physical conditions were the same. Worse than that, they tried every possible way to hide precious herb that they took from him, which was shameful. He would punish them once there was a chance.

“Your excellency, what should we do about the herb?” The doorman asked.

Wu Chenzi looked at the other packs, “Open the rest packs.”

“Yes.” The doorman opened all the rest packs and in all of them were Beast Hay.

Because of the Imperial Decree, Wu Chenzi arranged the doorman to send the herb to Wu Xuanran before he left.

The doorman rewrapped the herb and sent to Wu Xuanran.

As soon as Wu Xuanran learned that the herb was sent by Wu Ruo, they assumed it must be expensive and precious. But it turned out to be Beast Hay which could be found everywhere. Wu Xuanran was so angry that he smashed the herb on the ground, “Wu Ruo. How dare you humiliate us with such a herb for animals!”

Wu Qianli roared, “since he is married and has someone to get his back, he has never cared about us.”

One from North Yard sneered, “I wouldn’t care about my uncles if my uncles had taken my betrothal gifts.”

“You sound like you didn’t take Wu Ruo’s betrothal gifts. Don’t overvalue your dignity.” Wu Qiantong roared.

“Enough!” Wu Bufang, who had been silent, struck the table, “are you sick of shouting at each other every day? If you have that much energy to fight, why don’t you focus on fixing your health problem? Look at you. Look at your broken arms and blind eyes. What else can you do other than yelling at each other? What else can you do when you are kicked out of Wu family?”

He was tired of their fights lately. Every morning when he woke up and thought of coming to see the Wu family, it was such a pain. If they were not his children, he would have abandoned them.

“…” Others shut up instantly.

“Chief, what should we do with these herbal packs?” The servant who was still carrying the herbal packs asked.

Wu Bufang gave a look at the herbal pack which was an insult to him as well. He opened his mouth and was about to throw them away when someone said, “Please give them to me.”

Wu Bufang jerked to look who it was. It was Wu Bai, Wu Qiantong’s youngest son. His spiritual land was destroyed when the ghosts attacked the Gaoling town. After they moved to the Wu family in Imperial City, surprisingly he followed medical instructions very well. He ate whatever medicine the doctors told him to and he also got his mood under control, which was why he was basically recovered right now. On the contrary, the others craved for expensive medicines that were not doctor’s description in the hope of getting healed sooner. As a matter of fact, doing so would worsen their illness.

“He can have them.”

Wu Bai received the herbal pack and picked the one on the floor that was tossed by Wu Xuanran and wrapped it well before he went back to his room.

Wu Xiao followed him to his room and asked, “Why do you need the herb that is only for beasts?”

“It is no harm to have it. Perhaps I can use it one day in the future.” Wu Bai was much more reasonable after Wu family was divided.

Wu Xiao pouted but didn’t say a word.

Later in the afternoon that day an increasing number of citizens passed out on the street, which immediately caused crowd panic. In only an hour, all clinics in the city were overpacked with patients and their families. Worse than that, numerous patients had to lie outside clinics.

Doctors could track down the cause because the patients’ pulses indicated that they were normally fine except for the coma and fever. There was no other symptom at all. Doctors had no clue at all although they tried every possible way to bring the patients back to senses or lower down their body temperature but they failed. The fever spread quickly out to every corner of the imperial city like a pandemic, catching everyone off guard. It was a human-to-human transmission. Eventually the imperial concubines and princes living in the palace were also infected with the fever.

In two short days most of the people in the imperial capital city and nearby towns were infected with the fever. The emperor was furious and immediately issued an imperial decree to all governmental officials to stop the plague. It was a perfect chance for princes to show their talent to deal with emergency state affairs. That was also what drove Wu Chenzi crazy because he didn’t come up with a good solution to solve the problem. If they could handle the pandemic very well, the emperor and governmental officials would be impressed by the second prince’s performance and achievement. Even the fellow citizens would pay a respect to him because of the outstanding performance, which would be much more beneficial to the second prince’s success to be crowned.

When Wu Chenzi hurriedly returned to Wu family from the imperial palace and was about to summon family elders and aides to discuss about it, he saw Wu Bufang and his wife along with his elders and elders’ families to rush toward the yard Wu Xuanran stayed.

He didn’t intent to give it any attention but suddenly he thought of the herbal packs that Wu Ruo’s guard sent two days ago. He still remembered the guard said the Beast Hay was a cure for fever.

Thinking of this, Wu Chenzi got excited and followed Wu Bufang to Wu Xuanran’s yard.

Once Wu Bufang stepped into the yard, he shouted loudly, “Bai? Where is Wu Bai? Is he home?”

“Great-grandfather, I’m here. What can I do for you?” Wu Bai rushed out and asked.
