NEW YEAR AND AN APOCALYPSE

Chapter 27: WHAT'S TAKING HIM SO LONG

(Ken's Point of View)

"Is everything alright?"

"What's taking him so long, then?"

Stacy, looked at me, worried,

"Should we just stay here, Ken?"

I did not answered, still hoping it'd be a little delay,

If not however, I might just be dragging them to trouble,

Mar signals them, to forfet, to move away,

But Stacy's body was stiff,

Still concerned for her little brother.

"Do you think we should rescue him?"

She asked, concern present in her face,

Then Isabelle laughed,

"And then what? Get ambushed on their base?"

"What if there's zombies? For goodness sake use your brain,"

"What if he have food? And he was taking time to pull them up?"

"Whatever, don't drag us to do something insane,"

The two girls continued to reason out, and soon I had enough.

"If you don't stay quiet, panic and keep making noise,

Do you think it'd make things better? Do you think that's the better choice?"

They were quiet for a moment, then I sighed and hesitated,

While Josh, the guy behind the girls comforted them,

As I thought of a plan to end it all well.

If only I can dream here, get the answers that I wanted,

Then we shouldn't have worried much, and this all could have been prevented,

But at the end of my thoughts, I was convinced it might mean danger,

So I told them to back up, although it was clear that Stacy was angered.

"Can I just go and find him, if you all are afraid?"

"Sure go ahead, just don't come asking for our aid,"

Isabelle replied to her, rather unfazed

"Fine, if you all don't care, I'll do it,"

"Just be careful, it might be a dangerous place,"

Josh warned her, hoping she'd reconsider,

But with pure love for her brother, she went on, like any good sister.

...

Robert was as still as he could be,

And their feet were the only thing he could see,

They then began to pick out the food,

Some walked out, but one remained to stood.

It stopped its steps on his exact location,

Robert stifled his reaction by his hand,

Seems like whoever he is recieved far from satisfaction,

What is it that he much demand?

Robert closed his eyes shut as the person was still there,

If he'd kill him, just do it right away,

He hates suspense and he hates suffering,

Why on earth did that person insisted his stay?

Turned out the person was still picking food,

Humming to himself a lovely tune,

And when he heard faint noises from beneath,

It smiled to himself and ignored it in disbelief.

Robert grew hungrier as he could still smell the aroma,

Mouth-watering and tempting, it was his current dilemma,

He tried his best to stop himself from devouring what he had saved,

To feed his beloved sister, and to prevent the others from rage...

After some time the man walked away,

But it dropped a chicken leg on the floor as it left,

Robert, wanting to eat it attempted to get it with his hand,

Unfortunately, someone else wanted it back.

He quickly stopped his fingers from being exposed,

As a man bent down to get it as he supposed,

After so, for some luck, that man didn't notice him,

Or else his chances of escape would be quite slim.

When he was sure that they all left,

He sighed in relief decided to get out,

But what he saw next he did not expect,

They were just on the other side, now looking at him,

He's caught a suspect.

...

Stacy chose to go, despite many many warnings,

Ken decided to follow her, as he was worried of her well-being,

He knew what it feels like, to have a brother,

So he wanted to help her rescue him,

As losing him will surely make her suffer.

Even though wobbling, shaking and scared,

Stacy gulped it all up, so her brother she can save,

No one dares hurt him, or else she'll do all could,

Just so she could make them pay, for doing him something rude.

For standing up to a bully, or talking back to his mother,

And Stacy as she loves him, would always choose to stand up for him,

No matter how hard, no matter the pain,

And now that their family is gone, he's all he have to keep her sane,

And no one dare hurt him, unless they want blood to suddenly rain.

Perhaps Ken was unaware, than what accompanies him could be a murderer,

But all he knows, is that Stacy is underestimated by their fellow survivors,

Unlike others, she smell a little like blood,

Perhaps that's how they survived,

She was tough.

He was distracted observing her,

So her halt made him surprised,

She pointed the hole and gestured to lower his head,

For she see something moving on one side.

Ken followed, then observed with her,

Until they smelled the food, displayed on the table,

Stacy wondered, where Robert could have been,

But as they stayed there, they began to feel insatiable hunger.
