Mr. Lu, the World's Sweetest Man

Chapter 57

Daring as she was, she didn’t dare pull open Yun Wei’s desk drawer in full view of the other classmates.

Everything had to be done stealthily, without being noticed.

Once she’d pulled the drawer back a little, Hua Shasha slipped her hand inside to grope around.

She could barely contain her excitement.

The necklace that she’d spent countless hours and much effort to make her own was now almost within reach.

As she reached deeper into the drawer, it was as though she were within reach of the life of a rich girl that she’d always dreamed about, of the life of luxury as a member of a wealthy and noble family.

Unable to contain her excitement, she reached farther inside, and just when she thought that she was about to touch the velvet box, a loud “thud” suddenly sounded from within the drawer.

After which, Hua Shasha felt her fingers turn numb, followed by a piercing pain.

“Ouch!” Hua Shasha screamed aloud, pulling her hand out of the drawer as though she’d received an electric shock.

Drawn by the sound, the few classmates that had remained in the classroom turned to look at her.

They saw a flurry of movement unfold before their eyes as Hua Shasha, her face contorted with pain, jumped up and down with something dangling on her hand, something that she couldn’t shake off no matter how hard she tried.

The classmates who were outside the classroom also ran inside. Hua Shasha was in so much pain that tears started rolling down her cheeks, smudging her eye makeup and forming two black columns down her face. It made her look horrifying.

After a long while, Hua Shasha stopped hopping around and looked at her fingers.

She noticed that her fingers had been tightly ensnared by a mousetrap, its sharp barbs piercing into her hand, which was bleeding profusely.

“What? How did a mousetrap get into our classroom?” some of the students asked in curiosity.

“Yes. Hua Shasha, what did you touch?” the other students asked.

“This is really weird.”

Hua Shasha’s face turned from red to white as she cringed in discomfort.

In the presence of her classmates, she was, at the moment, at a loss as to what excuse to come up with.

Seeing the teacher, the students rushed forward to tell him what had happened. “The teacher is here. Sir, Hua Shasha is injured. She got caught in a mousetrap!”

The teacher took one look at Hua Shasha and, realizing that her injury was quite bad, instructed, “Come, come. Let’s get her to the infirmary, quickly.”

It was only when the lesson was supposed to start that Hua Shasha and the teacher returned to the classroom.

Angrily, the teacher asked, “I know that you’re all quick-witted and intelligent people from every corner of the country who have, based on your excellent academic results, been accepted into this university. However, regardless of how smart you are, you shouldn’t play pranks like this to hurt your own classmates!”

“Sir, forget it. I believe that the student responsible for this prank didn’t do so intentionally,” Hua Shasha said with her head hung low, appearing to be forgiving.

Yun Wei was compelled to hand it to Hua Shasha. She was so thick-skinned that no one would ever be able to stoop to her level. Obviously, she was the one who’d been busted while trying to steal something. Yet here she was, acting as though she were the innocent victim.

With anger in his voice, the teacher remarked, “I will not let this matter pass so easily. Assuming that you’re all smart people, the university and teachers have been giving you a lot of space and freedom. Now, look what you’ve done, pranking and causing injury to someone!”

Noticing that the teacher was furious, everyone started talking about how this prank was too over the top. It had caused serious injury to their classmate. And since the incident had happened in their classroom, everyone naturally felt uneasy.

This time, it was Hua Shasha who’d gotten injured, but what if someone else got hurt the next time around?

The teacher loudly demanded, “Whose mousetrap is this?”

They all looked at one another, but no one stood up to take responsibility.

The teacher was livid by this point. “I’ll ask again. Whose is it?”

Yun Wei stood up, looking a tad nervous. “Sir, it’s mine.”
