“You!” Hua Shasha was so incensed that she raised her hand, preparing to slap Yun Wei.

Everyone noticed that she was very emotional and intended to hit Yun Wei. Immediately, they all yelled at her to stop. “Hua Shasha, what’s wrong with you? What are you doing?”

Yun Wei’s face crumpled, and she looked like she was about to cry.

Bai Wenping quickly held her back, saying, “There are a lot of people here. You should let it go.”

Very reluctantly, Hua Shasha lowered her hand.

Bai Wenping repeated the question. “Yun Wei, where have you been?”

“I went to the toilet and then to pay the bill. But the manager uncle said that I didn’t have to pay,” Yun Wei continued, pretending like she didn’t know anything, and looked at Bai Wenping with an aggrieved expression on her face.

Bai Wenping also looked annoyed as he continued, “I was waiting outside the toilet, so why didn’t I see you?”

“When I came out of the toilet, you weren’t there.” Yun Wei pouted.

When everyone saw that Hua Shasha and Bai Wenping were going too far in admonishing Yun Wei, everyone chimed in. “Whatever. Yun Wei paid for our dinner, so why are you guys still reprimanding her? Out of goodwill, Yun Wei paid on your behalf when it was totally within her rights not to do so. What do you think you’re doing, treating her like this?”

Everyone in the group started talking at once in support of Yun Wei.

Sensing that the atmosphere in the room had taken a turn for the worse, Hua Shasha forced herself to smile. “Yes, actually. Since I misplaced my purse, I asked Yun Wei to pay on my behalf. I’ll definitely reimburse Yun Wei for the cost of the dinner, so this dinner will still be my treat.”

“No need for repayment.” Yun Wei quickly waved her hand, adding, “That manager uncle said that he waived the bill, so I can’t take your money.”

“But it doesn’t matter what he did. This was my treat for everyone,” Hua Shasha loudly exclaimed, looking threateningly at Yun Wei.

Yun Wei ignored her look, pretending not to have seen it, and continued to wave her hand. “Really, there’s no need.”

The other classmates had seen enough and said, “The manager’s already waived the bill in Yun Wei’s honor, so it doesn’t matter whether you repay the money or not. Let’s just say that tonight’s dinner was on Yun Wei. Hua Shasha, if you’re really sincere, you can buy dinner the next time.”

“Yun Wei, thank you,” one classmate said to her.

“Thank you so much for your hospitality. Next time, we’ll invite you out, and we can have fun together,” said many of the other classmates who’d clamored around Yun Wei.

“Oh sure, good.” Yun Wei lifted her little face and smiled at everyone.

When all was said and done, everyone seemed to have forgotten the warm hospitality that Hua Shasha had extended to them earlier that evening.

Compared to how Yun Wei had settled their bill, Hua Shasha’s ardent hospitality somehow seemed contrived and awkward.

On the other hand, Yun Wei’s silent gesture of making the payment had made them look at her with respect.

Everyone spoke with Yun Wei before, in groups of three’s and five’s, they bade goodbye to Hua Shasha and left.

Yun Wei also took the opportunity to leave with them.

Only Hua Shasha and Bai Wenping remained, standing in the same spot.

Hua Shasha angrily stamped her foot. “Yun Wei, that cheap little bundle of trash! Oh, I’m so angry! I’m bursting with anger! I really, really want to hit her! She had the audacity to stab me in the back!”

“I was following her closely. I really didn’t see her go to pay the bill! I really didn’t know what she was up to!” Bai Wenping said.

Hua Shasha’s face contorted with rage. “It’s all your fault!” she said. “You failed to watch her closely and caused this debacle. I spent so much effort trying to build relationships with these classmates and friends. Now, they’ve all become Yun Wei’s friends! Bai Wenping, did you do this on purpose?”

Bai Wenping hastened to explain. “What do you mean by ‘on purpose?’ What’s gotten into your head? Can’t you see that I’ve been doing my best to help you?”
