“Let Shen Weixia check them out first,” Jian Zhifei said.

Everyone waited for Shen Weixia’s professional assessment.

Unexpectedly, once he had sat down and had a look at the necklaces, he said, “Bring me the toolbox.”

Jian Zhifei looked at one of the servants, motioning for him to bring Shen Weixia’s toolbox to him.

Wide-eyed, everyone watched Shen Wiexi, expecting him to take out a pair of white gloves before giving the diamonds a thorough examination.

But instead, he took out a hammer.

Now, this hammer was Shen Weixia’s signature. He lifted the hammer and aimed it at the diamond necklaces.

Seeing that Shen Weixia was about to crush one of them before even giving them a proper assessment, someone in the crowd tried to stop him. “Mr. Shen, you haven’t started assessing which one of these necklaces is the fake yet…”

Unmoved, Shen Weixia brought the hammer down on one of the diamond necklaces, crushing it to smithereens.

Despite being hard gemstones, diamonds were especially brittle, so a hard slam from a hammer would crush even the genuine diamonds, much less the fake ones.

The sound of the hammer slamming down on the diamonds was deafening, shocking the surrounding crowd. They all froze in place.

At that moment, everyone was stunned, and there was complete silence.

Wait… what? Shen Weixia had just crushed one of the necklaces without even taking a closer look at it. What if he’d destroyed the wrong one?

And what if both necklaces were real?

Everyone held their breath.

Noting that her necklace had been crushed, Hua Shasha’s face turned ashen and she exclaimed, “Shen Weixia, do you realize how much money the necklace you just crushed is worth? That was a one-of-a-kind necklace with priceless diamonds…”

“Was that one yours?” Shen Weixia asked, giving Hua Shasha a quick glance.

Hua Shasha was in such a state that she was literally jumping, as if Shen Weixia had just burned a huge heap of cash. “Of course it’s mine. You have to compensate me!”

“I said earlier that I don’t appraise low-quality stuff, and anything I find to be of substandard quality, I destroy,” Shen Weixia responded, taking his time to meticulously put his hammer back inside the toolbox.

“My necklace is the real thing. It’s worth over a hundred million!” Hua Shasha shouted.

Shen Weixia replied mildly, “Are you telling me that man-made rutile is worth a hundred million? Great. I’ll send you a cartload of rutile stones and you can pay me a hundred million per stone.”

Shen Weixia picked up the necklace and said, “This necklace is definitely 99.99 percent pure gold, but in spite of the good color, there are many flaws in the workmanship. Negative rating!”

“The links haven’t been inserted properly. Negative rating!”

“There’s a 0.05-millimeter gap between each segment of the necklace. Negative rating!”

Hua Shasha’s face turned increasingly white, and she protested, “What grounds do you have to claim that my diamonds are fake?”

“Rutile stones are a natural mineral with a better refractive index than diamonds. Polished rutile stones can look as radiant as real diamonds, and are therefore frequently mistaken for them. However, in this case, the differences between the real diamonds and the rutile diamonds are so great that I don’t even need to use any tools to tell that they’re fake, just my naked eye.” Shen Weixia threw the crushed rutile stones onto the floor and suggested, “If you don’t believe me, you could very well seek out another appraiser for a second opinion.”

But no one in the crowd had any reason to doubt Shen Weixia.

Soon, discussions and speculations started. “So the diamond necklace that Jian Zhifei’s been wearing is a fake…”

“It was supposedly a loan from Hua Shasha. I just can’t believe that it’s fake.”

Listening in on their discussions, Jian Zhifei’s expression turned solemn and, looking a tad embarrassed, she asked, “And what about the other necklace?”

“The other one is so-so,” Shen Weixia said, not seeming to care too much, as though he wasn’t too impressed by the other one either.
