Meridian's Devil

Chapter 27 - HEADING BACK

\'He is absolutely self-absorbed and doesn\'t care about me, not that he should. But he lacks even the basic decencies at certain points. But he did apologize, and perhaps I am taking the series of moments between the two of us to the heart, when I shouldn\'t.\'

"Yeah okay." Yue shrugs and moves in the direction that they were already headed in, ahead of him.

"Yeah okay what?" He walks up to her and she stops instantly to answer him back.

"Yeah okay, I will....um....go back to your place." He bobs his head in response, a sort of approval to her choice of going along with him, probably. He did want her to stay by his side after all, or that\'s what she thought as he didn\'t disapprove of her decision of arriving back to his abode.

"So, how did you know where to find me?" Yue commences a conversation with a question among the many roaming around in her head, while occasionally rubbing her hands in order to warm herself a little.

"I...." He starts and pauses as he glances upon her hands striving to bring about some heat, "I know my way around the forest." Yue narrows her eyes at him at his vague answer back.

"That doesn\'t answer how you located me exactly?" He looks at her once, before looking ahead again. She knew she was being overly inquisitive but, that\'s just how she was. And this was a simple question though...

"I have a good sense of smell." He mutters after a long pause.

Yue follows his gaze that lies upon her hands, and that\'s when it hits her. Her hands were bleeding earlier when she tripped and fell upon a few unforeseen twigs in the dark of the forest.

\'He is one hell of an eccentric person.

A good sense of smell? What is he? A dog?\'

"I see." Hearing her reply he fastens his pace a little and she follows his lead. Her feet seem to be becoming heavier to carry or maybe it was just in her head.

"Also, who was that guy? An informer from the Palace?" She was also dying to ask that where did he suddenly emerge from, what were the sweatpants for, why did he throw them where the wolf was, and why this guy called Shuang had them on? Yue had a plausible theory of Sable the wolf and Shuang the informer being related, maybe an owner and owned relationship but it was non-corroborative, who would have a wolf as a pet.

There was so much going on in her head.

Xuan Wu suddenly stopped in his steps and the abrupt halt made Yue bump into his back. He then turned to face her, and it was clearly apparent by his facial expressions that she was pissing him off.

"Will you stop bombarding me with questions? This isn\'t an interrogation, alright? Just shut up and keep moving." He rolls his eyes as once again he starts walking. This time his pace is faster than earlier. Yue strives to keep up with him and she pants lowly, hoping he wouldn\'t hear as she followed behind.

He on purpose advances in front of her, almost in a scurry to avoid her and her continuous questions. And she realizes as well soon enough, that the abrupt unanticipated news befallen upon him must have him at a discomfort and it wasn\'t the right time to interrogate him about her own doubts and queries.

As she strived harder and harder to catch up with his velocity, her vision begins to become slightly hazy. And shortly what was up till now a crystal clear view ahead now was recasting a blurry sight. The single man in a haste in front of her now appeared as double figures to her as her stamina dropped to its lowest.

"H....hey....wait." she mumbled softly and he sighed heavily in a \'what now\' attitude before turning around. His actions were all so reluctant and she did feel unpleasant at how much of a nuisance she was creating but she had no control of her fatigued conditions.

"I-I don\'t feel so well..." Her voice was almost inaudible. She squints her eyes as she falls forward to the ground. She landed on her knees as she breathed in and out at a rapid pace. Her hands position themselves on her thighs right above her knee caps to support her weight as she buckled her knees as though she was at a shrine and was offering her prayers. Her head faced the ground in an almost unbearable weariness. When he formerly mentioned that she hadn\'t healed completely, this is what he was insinuiating precisely. Her health hadn\'t vitally been restored to its beaming essence yet and she was still to be a patient to his dorm.

Her limited vision observed his feet retreating towards her in a hurried motion as he quickly walks towards her and crouches by her side in an almost concerned manner.. His disquiet was evident on his face but he was quick to bury it.
