Lord Of The Witches

Chapter 41 - :-41 Nightingale's Journey

Thud Thud Thud.....

The continuous sound of the running horse mixed with the silence of the foggy night. The blurry figure wearing brown cloak sat on top of the horse. Her left hand held a torch while with the other she held the reins.

The horse tore through the air and moved forward. Currently, Nightingale was rushing towards the hideout, where her sisters have taken refuge. She traveled on a narrow path, through the [Forest of Demons].

Her destination was the cave hidden deep within the [Impassible Mountain]. The path of covered in darkness with only the moon to illuminate the surrounding. The vision was beyond terrible at night yet with the help of the torch, she somehow advanced.

The fog had started to cover the path beyond the view, an indication that she would soon not be able to ride the horse for much longer.

Nightingale's heart was in unrest, an ominous premonition haunted her mind. It was like there were many eyes in the dark cover of the night, looking at her.

She gritted her teeth and increases her traveling speed.

Thud Thud Thud...

She pulls the reins with her right hand causing the horse to slow down and stop. After getting down from it's back, she tied the horse to a tree.

"Don't worry friend, I will return soon just stay put okay~...." she ċȧrėssed its face softly before walking into the white fog.

She continued walking for some hours, as much as she wished to use her ability to travel faster, she knew that it would only exhaust her faster so she decided to travel on foot.

All this time she couldn't shake off the feeling of being watched by somebody. Her institution was rather accurate, Azik had been watching her all this time from the [Spiritual World].

He wanted to make sure that the witches that Nightingale went to talk with were not a danger to them. Ordinary people, nobles and the [Cross-Church] had been hunting them for a long time.

The accumulation of hatred and pain would devour all the justification from one's mind. Roland had already divined that the talk wouldn't be in favor of Nightingale.

If Nightingale had decided to leave them, many of the witches wouldn't allow her to leave with her life, they wouldn't let her go in fear that she would expose their hideout.

If this indeed happened then Azik would need to eliminate the potential threats to their plan, decisively.

After traveling for some time, the road ahead split into two paths. One went up while the other down. Nightingale quickly entered [The Mist] and traveled upwards.

Soon she spotted a cave with light coming out from its center. She quickly entered only to find two of her sisters covered with a white cloth while another witch stood near.

"Nightingale you are back..!!!" said the witch with a smile.

Nightingale handed over the torch and frowned. Sadness could be observed on her face as she thought 'If only I had returned sooner then maybe I could have saved them with Lord and His Highness aid.'

Her fists clenched as she silently mourned for her dead sisters. Soon a determined expression appeared on her face as she thought 'I must convince them....'

"Airly and Genna were brave till the end but they couldn't survive the pain. You should go and see Wendy. She would be happy that you returned." said the Witch before carrying the torch inside the cave.

After giving the dead one last look, she moved inside the cave and left to find Wendy, she couldn't wait to share her experience with her best friend and savior.

Woosh....

What she failed to notice was a blurry figure who unknowingly appeared near the dead bodies. His yellow crystal-like eyes glowing in the darkness. He wore a black cloak underneath which one could spot an armor.

With his helmet on, he looked like the grim reaper. The dark-red spear in his right hand gave off an intimidating feeling. He looked towards the bodies of the fallen witches.

'I now understand what you meant back then....' he tapped his spear, gently on the ground. Pale hands appeared from the ground beneath the bodies and clutched them tightly. The bodies disappeared shortly as he himself submerged in the ground beneath his feet.

[Back to Nightingale]

Wendy is a young-looking woman with mȧturė facial features, her reddish-brown hair is almost waist length. She has the biggest brėȧst among witches of Witch Union, which caused her inconveniences and shoulder ache.

"I am back...." said Nightingale as she hugged Wendy with strength.

"Welcome back Nightingale...!!, were you able to save the two young sisters...?" Wendy inquired about Anna and Nana with worry evident on her face.

Wendy is a kindhearted and caring woman who thinks about the welfare of her companions first and foremost. She always makes sure to talk to them whenever they have a problem to encourage and reassure them.

She has a strong sense of responsibility, as she believes she should take care of the younger sisters in their group.

"I will tell you everything Wendy, but you must help me convince the other sisters. I didn't need to save them rather they saved all of us....!!" replied Nightingale with enthusiasm.

"What do you mean...?" questioned Wendy, not quite understanding what her friend what to say.

Nightingale told Wendy about her experience in the [Border Land] which was under the control of His Highness Roland, the Fourth Prince.
