Chapter 5:

Brought to you by Noir

“Haaa…”

My yawn/sighs were sucked by the early morning while I was on my way to school.

Yesterday, I was quite perplexed by the fact that I had to teach her mathematics, but I agreed nonetheless to help Hiyori, who had this ambition to change her present self for good. I do want to support her in that.

However, I was still somewhat unsettled, so a sigh leaked out from my mouth reflecting out that unsettling feeling.

“Why do you have such a serious expression so early in the morning, Subaru?”

“Koutora.”

“Or did you stay up late? If it’s a game, lend it to me when you’re done.”

“Um, yeah, yeah, something like that.”

“By the way, I’ve been watching videos of cute animals since yesterday, thinking I can get conversation material to converse with girls in school. So when I started watching the videos of the chief priest using cats for his daily activities, somehow, I became more curious about the chief priest himself. So, I thought, ‘If I get myself a cat, maybe I can also become a hot topic between girls. They will even pay more attention to me.’ What do you think about this plan?”

“… I do think something is really wrong with you, Koutora.”

And so, as we walked towards the school talking about the mundane and insignificant stuff, we passed through the school gate.

Koutora’s topic of conversation transitioned from the cat videos he had started watching yesterday to garter belts for some reason. Then it suddenly switched into talks about the girls’ undies, which peeked out through their summer school clothes. Hearing the talk moving from the discussions about cute animals to some adult jokes later on, the guard of my heart trembled a bit. Still, as expected, even I was taken aback and started smiling wryly as it turned into girl’s bikinis dress-ups.

However, I could tell that Koutora himself knew what he was talking about, as I could understand him trying to make me laugh with his stories. Thanks to that, the perplexities in my heart were somewhat lightened. At times like these, I am really grateful for the presence of someone like Koutora.

“””Kyaaa~!!!”””

“I knew it was black … hmm? What’s that?”

“What indeed, I wonder …?”

We saw a group of girls making noise in front of the shoe locker at the entrance.
