I Was A Single Mother 'till I Met Him'

Chapter 4 - Let them bark

Mia was sleeping in her room and she was in deep sleep. From the day she came to this country, she was like a bird without any fear. For the first time in her life, she actually favored her time here.

****

Clara was looking at the road from the window of her room and she was happy about Mia. Now she was living like a human, not a puppet that could be easily controlled, and she was really happy for her. But the thing she hated the most was that she was no longer with her anymore.

If  she was there, then Mia would be fulfilling her dream, fighting tournaments and becoming an International fighter.

She took a deep breath when thinking about all this and decided to go to bed.

*In morning*

Mia was wearing a loose t-shirt, denim jeans, and sneakers, her long jet-black hair was tied in a ponytail and her white skin was radiant.

Clara exited her room, she looked at Mia and asked, "Where are you going?"

"Checkups."

"With whom? It's so early in the morning."

Mia looked at her blankly and said, "Oh, it's just me, and by the way, it's 11 am, it's not 'early'."

Clara smiled after glancing at the clock, looking at Mia, trying to take responsibility, "Let's go together. You wait here."

"Okay," Mia's blue eyes twinkled happily.

Clara smiled and said," how can someone be that happy after ruining her career" but these words didn't come out of her mouth.

She smiled as she didn't know how else to react.

***

Clara came out after 20 minutes, late as usual.

She was wearing a white crop top and black shorts that accented her waist, and sneakers.

Her long brunette hair was let down, and her emerald green eyes were lined with black eyeliner.

Mia told Clara, "We are late, my Princess."

Clara smirked, "Don't worry, I can take you to your destination faster than anyone else."

Mia smiled, satisfied.

*****

Mia was sitting in the passenger seat while Clara was getting even more frustrated by the minute.

Clara growled, "I can't believe this. I hate the rules. Even that man on his bicycle is driving faster than me. We're driving at the slow pace of a turtle. This is unbelievable."

"Oh come on, going faster won't hurt now would it?" Mia suggested.

Clara sighed, "We're not even moving at normal speed. The speed should be at about 10 kilometers per hour."

And as if on cue, another cyclist passed their car.

After a few hours, Mia and Clara had arrived at the hospital.

The both of them had arrived, but as expected, they were late, just as expected.

A nurse told them to wait a while, as Mia was their regular patient.

A lady standing behind the both of them whispered to the lady sitting next to her, "That's the girl who's carrying the illegitimate child."

Another said, "Look at that girl, she's such a whore, a dirty creature in our society."

Another person said, "She's so young, she must've been kicked out of the house since she got pregnant."

"She must be carrying a child of some rich man. Just for money. "

Clara could listen to what everyone was gossiping about. She clenched and unclenched her fist. She was ready to defend Mia, before Mia stopped her.

Clara looked at Mia hesitantly, eyes still full of anger. If only they knew what she was capable of doing.

It was only when a nurse called, "Mia."

Mia got up, calmly looked at Clara's furious face and said, "You go and take the car towards the main exit, I will meet you there within 15 minutes. Okay?"

Clara looked at Mia, and nodded.

Mia signed and went into a room for her regular checkup.

She entered the room, where her doctor was already waiting for her.

"How are you doing Mia?" The doctor asked.

"I'm doing just fine doctor," Mia answered with a smile.

"I told you to stop calling me that, I don't mind being called by my real name, Seb. But moving on, do you feel any pain or discomfort?"

"No, not at all," she answered.

Seb and Mia were good friends, and Seb used to do free check ups on Mia, while also never mentioning anything about the father of her child.

After some regular checkups, Seb smiled, "Your child is in a healthy condition."

Mia smiled.

Seb nodded, "I do recommend you to eat well, get lots of rest, and don't burden yourself."

Mia sighed, "Seb, but what about that part-time job I wanted to join?"

"Oh yeah, that flower shop isn't doing so well. But you can always join it after you delivered your child," Seb said with a smile.

"Thank you," Mia said.

As her eyes asked for approval to leave the room, Seb nodded curtly.

Mia was sick of this, so she took a stand for herself, "This is my baby, this child is not illegitimate. It is as legitimate as I am."

All the other ladies became silent and just stared at Mia.

"Why do you care about whether or not this baby is illegitimate? Unlike all of you, I am a much better mother than you. Unlike all of you, I didn't abort this baby, I kept it. Even if I'm a whore, I didn't just abort my child for the sake of society," Mia explained, her blue eyes burning with rage as she walked away silently.

But what she didn't notice was that Seb had watched the entire scene.

******

Clara was standing out of her car and was looking at the entrance, and everyone's eyes were on her, she was looking gorgeous and her dark brown hairs were floating into the air. Her green eyes were on the exit gate.

Clara ran towards her, and asked, "You okay?"

Mia smiled and nodded, "Of course."

Clara knew Mia was simply faking it, but she kept a fake facade. If Mia wasn't here, she would've killed everyone that dared hurt her or speak ill of her.
