A Second Chance In Remnant

Chapter 21 - 21. The D.e.s.i.r.e to be a Hero

I honestly feel like screaming because in the last few weeks I have had to deal with over 2 dozen assassins, even if I enjoy a good fight or the cash I'm earning from selling my location there's a limit. I sigh out of a profound weariness that fills me but I'll deal with it, now then I'm currently at a settlement called Shion it's a nice place that gave me some time to rest and I took up keeping a journal of my travels which is mostly filled with drawings of places, Grimm, and of people that I have seen. Today I decided to walk one of the trails here to relax and practice drawing scenery and animals in my new journal. The trail took me past a river that had some fish jumping against the current which I try to sketch while munching on some berries I found when I heard a girly scream in the distance. Well, time to save a damsel in distress, as I rush toward the source of the scream I saw a pack of wolfs surrounding a tree. These wolves are known as gale wolfs because they are some of the fastest animals around Mistral not only that they are as big as a grown a.d.u.l.t male human which makes them pretty big but what really makes them stand out is they can glide with some wing flaps on both sides of their body.

As the wolves growled at the tree then looked to me with teeth bared, I really didn't want to fight them because I always had a fondness for wolves so I tried using my aura to pressure them like one piece's conqueror's haki that I have been working on to deal with weaker assassins that plague me. It's still a work in progress but the wolves started to back away after feeling the pressure that I'm creating with my aura by filling the surrounding area with my aura by pushing it outward from my body. As the beasts retreated after growling at me I look up the tree not find a pretty girl but some guy hugging it for dear life, I clicked my tongue in annoyance then shouted at the guy.

Silva: Can you get down from there the wolves are gone or are you stuck up there?

If he is stuck I'm leaving him there, the guy replied.

???: Yes I can get down.

As the guy tried to get down he slipped then fell out of the tree landing on his back. I sighed then walked over to the guy to offer my hand to lift him up, as extended my hand to him I got a closer look at him he was blonde, scrawny, and had blue eyes plus around my age. The blondie took my hand as I pulled him he brushed off the dirt on him and spoke.

???: Thanks for that, the names Jaune Arc, short, sweet, rolls off the tongue, the ladies love it.

Well, this is unexpected.

( Later on down the trail)

I'm beginning to regret saving Jaune because as I'm escorting him to town he just keeps talking and asking questions thus I just tuned him out for the remainder of the trail. As we continued down the trail Jaune started to tap my shoulder I sighed then asked.

Silva: Yes Jaune what is it?

Jaune scratched the back of his head then asked.

Jaune: How did you scare off those wolves and why were you glowing?

I stopped walking then asked back.

Silva: Do you know what aura is Jaune?

Silva: Aura is the manifestation of one's very soul, it protects us from harm, strengthens us to fight monsters, and helps heal our selves from battle.

Jaune looked at me wide-eyed as I continued.

Silva: These are the most basic uses of aura and there are 2 ways to unlock it by either training to the point that it manifests with enough will to bring it forth and the second way is to have someone unlock it for you.

Jaune then asked starry-eyed.

Jaune: Can you unlock mine?

I contemplated whether I should or not, there are pluses and minuses to helping the goofball but ultimately I decided to do so but first.

Silva: Why do you want to have your aura unlocked?

Jaune looked serious then explained.

Jaune: My father, my grandfather, and his father before him were all warriors. They were all heroes. I want to be one, too.

Silva: Jaune do you know what it means to be a hero?

Jaune was about to answer but stopped himself then look like he was thinking as he was I spoke.

Silva: Jaune to be a hero is not to use a sword to slay monsters or to raise a shield to protect someone nor is it to heal the wounded... It's to put your life on the line for what you deem worthy whether it be for yourself, people, or faith.

Jaune looked at me with a stunned expression, I continued.

Silva: This is what I think anyway but Jaune if you truly want to be a hero you need to be ready to put your life at risk. Come on, let's get back to Shion already before night comes.

As I walked down the path Jaune quietly followed me thankfully because all of his talking was getting on my nerves and I felt tempted to leave him behind. We walked down the trail I then saw a group of blondes running towards us and they shouted.

Blondes: JAUNE ARE YOU OKAY!?

Well looks like I met the Arc family I hope they won't drive me crazy.

( Later on at the Arc vacation home)

I'm really, really, starting to regret saving Jaune because his family invited me to have dinner with them and I accepted the invitation. I quickly came to regret that because Jaune's sisters are fairly unrestrained they even stripped him down in front of me to check if he had any wounds much to his protest. I'm beginning to think that while he wants to be a hero he actually sneaked into Beacon to get away from his sisters. As I had dinner with the Arc's Jaune's sisters pestered me with non-stop questions about me, what I do, and even ask what type of girl I like. When I told them about Melanie, Miltia, and Pyrrha, they all looked at me funny while Jaune had a look of worship in his eyes for me having 3 girlfriends, thankfully Mrs. Arc told the girls to focus on their meal then they can question me. I have to admit Mrs.Arc is a really good cook because everything she made was delicious with a capital D, I ask her if I could trade recipes with her and everyone was surprised that I could cook and she agreed.

As everyone finished eating the Arc sisters dragged me and Jaune to the living room, I quickly volunteered to clean the dishes to avoid being besieged by the sisterhood of Arcs but the Arc parents said that they can't have a guest clean the dishes. I ready myself as best I could to face the Arc sisters then they started to bombard me with questions.

Eldest Arc: What are you doing here in Shion?

Second Eldest: What's your family like?

Third Eldest: Do you really have 3 girlfriends?

Middle Child Arc: Hey aren't you the champion of the regional cup?

Third Youngest: What's your favorite color?

Second Youngest: What kind of fanus are you?

Jaune's Twin: What do you think of Jaune?

I can't help but wonder if Jaune has to deal with this on a daily bases, as I answer their questions one of time as best as I could. As I answer them they were surprised that I was traveling on my own but I kept me being from a bandit tribe, my underworld connections, and the bounty on my head in the underworld to myself plus the assassins I've killed but everything else they know after finally running out of questions. It was dark out when I decided to head back to my room at the tavern Mr. Arc offered for me to stay here tonight and the Arc girls didn't let me say no, with no choice in the matter I bunked with Jaune tonight. Jaune apologized for his sisters wearing me out from their interrogation and asked.

I decide to play dum to get some fun out of him.

Silva: What do you mean?

Jaune: Unlocking my aura can you do it?

I grinned then replied.

Silva: Whats aura?

Jaune looked stunned at my replied seeing that my grin got bigger, he then said.

Jaune: You know that forcefield thing.

I parroted.

Silva: Forcefield thing?

Silva: Jaune I was just pulling your leg so chill but to answer your question I will but only if you can pass some tests of mine.

Jaune questioned me about what kind of tests but all I told him was he will know tomorrow, I got comfortable and went to sleep for the night, Jaune seeing that I wasn't going to answer his questions followed suit.

( In the Morning)

I woke up before anyone and went outside to do my daily training while I wait for breakfast, as I swung my halberd Mr.Arc he was basically an older version of Jaune with a mild bread on his face showed up outside seeing him I decide to ask a question that's on my mind.

Silva: Mr.Arc can I ask you something?

Mr.Arc looked at me and gave me a silent go-ahead.

Silva: Why haven't you taught Jaune anything about combat and he even doesn't know what aura is till I told him?

He sighed then said.

Mr.Arc: If you haven't saved him I would have told you to mind your business but to answer your question the reason is simple. He's my only boy and I know how dangerous being a huntsman is and I don't want to ever think that he died before me when he's gone for prolonged periods of time on a mission.

Mr.Arc: Aren't you going to condemn me for not teaching Jaune how to fight even though I'm a huntsman?

I stopped swinging my weapon then turned to Mr.Arc and replied.

Silva: As you said Mr.Arc it isn't my business and if I was in your position I might have done the same but if I'm going to say anything it's that Jaune's life is his own he can make some decisions for himself.

As Mr.Arc was going to reply to me Mrs.Arc called out saying that breakfast is ready the both of us rushed to the table because Mrs.Arc cooking will get gone quickly if we dally because the girls and Jaune will not wait for us.
