You Didn't Tell Me the Start of My Transmigration Was a Gate

CH 2.1

Chapter 2 Part 1: Preparation

“Umm..”

The man who kept bothering me earlier walked towards me. I stared at him with a questioning look. What does he want this time?

“I just want to say thank you for saving us earlier. We’re truly grateful.”

“Then pack your things well. I don’t think we can get into the indoor gym easily. we might be in danger along the way.”

This is a desperate situation, so I have to be stern with my words. In fact, I consider these people as burdens. If I were alone, I could live for 3 to 5 years avoiding monsters while using the supermarket as my base camp.

“Perhaps, may I know your name?”

“… What?”

What’s wrong with this guy? This is not the time to relax.

“It’s just I can’t just keep using ‘You or Miss Student’ while addressing you.. So..”

“… It’s Han Seo-Ha.”

“Oh, I’m Kwon Seong-min.”

“Oh Okay…”

Before I returned, the Earth was on the verge of destruction. So I’m not really in the mood to chat leisurely with others.

Basically, right now my sociability was… practically ZERO! I barely had any personal conversations with other hunters.

“Do you have any unique skills?”

“Yeah.”

“What kind of skill…”

“I’m not really comfortable telling anyone about it.”

In fact, if they pay attention, they’d easily recognize that I possessed the unique skill- Spacial Interference. However, nowadays Spacial Interference was mostly used for long distance travel, which is basically teleportation.

In the past while I was surviving in this f~cking gate, I accidentally discovered «Blink». It’s a skill I often used to teleport from short distances during close combats.

“Then perhaps can I speak comfortably with you1 …”

It’s quite amusing. I probably looked relatively young, and Kwon Seong-min looks at least on his late 20s, but he still uses polite words with me.

“…Is that alright Miss Seo-Ha? You can speak comfortably with me too.”

“Alright.”

I was waiting for that. I too dropped the honorifics. Although I look like a high school student now, Kwon Seong-min was still a greenhorn2  for me.

“So I think, it’s quite too late now. Everyone is agitated. How about staying overnight, then we leave tomorrow morning? I think people are still feeling very anxious…”

He seems to consider me as the leader of the group. Sadly, I’m not really interested in leading anyone.

“If you want. A day or two should be fine. We can temporarily cover the collapsed wall with vinyl 3 .”

“Vinyl?”

“I told you. If there is no wall covering that side, the wind rakers 4 may come in. To prevent that, at least cover it with vinyl. Then won’t it make a sound when it tries to come in?”

Kwon Seong-min nodded after hearing that. My senses are quite sensitive, so I’ll be able to spot if a few monsters sneak in right away, but… I didn’t really want to do all those troublesome things in the middle of the night.

Seong-min went and told everyone to prepare well, and that we’d be leaving tomorrow morning instead. The work was then divided.

A group was tasked to help prepare dinner, while another group was tasked to repair the broken wall. The remaining people was assigned to keep watch.

It seemed like Kwon Seong-min was really good at leading people. He probably died here in the past. He must have been quite a talent, since he was invited to enter the academy. I can’t protect everyone by myself, so having Kwon Seong-min to help and lead these people is quite reassuring.

I’ll just explain things to him briefly then he does all the dirty work for me.

“Student.”

A familiar voice called out to me. She was the middle-aged woman who grabbed my wrist and dragged me out of the bombardment earlier. The area under her eyes was slightly puffy, but her original warm and naive look remained.

“Student Seo-Ha. It must have been hard for you, right? Are you hungry? Do you want to eat something?”

She uttered softly while stuffing some bread into my hand. It seemed that she was part of the group preparing dinner. Kwon Seong-min was controlling access to the place where the ingredients were stored. So her secretly taking out a bread for me, was like a grandmother secretly giving her granddaughter a snack. I was quite touched. It seemed more delicious than canned foods.

“Thank you.”

“No, no. I should be the one thanking you. If it weren’t for you, we all would have been in trouble earlier…”

She’s not wrong. They’re all destined to die here.

“Can you guess how far the Gateization5 went? No, actually, my son he’s in the Hanbit apartment… It’s right over there… he might have been affected too… I’m worried….”

This… I could see that the lady was trying to hold back her tears. Unfortunately, in my memory the Hanbit Apartment was…

It was attacked by a Ground dog, right after it was gated. It must have collapsed by now.

I shook my head. I can’t tell her what I know. It would be weird if I know since I’d been with them during the whole gateization. They’d just be suspicious of me.

“Sorry, I said something stupid. Your family must be worried about you too…”

“Ah…”

“Yes, definitely…”

I was quite uncomfortable. It was hard to hide it.

My parents died in a gate accident when I was 5 years old. I moved from one relative’s house to another with government subsidies, and by the time I turned 16, I had lived separately. So there was really no one who I could consider family, not to mention anyone who would worry about me.

I don’t necessarily need to tell her anything, so I kept my mouth shut.

The middle-aged woman, who introduced herself as Kim Jeong-hwa, quickly went back to help prepare dinner. There were about 40 people here now, so it would be quite a chore to cook for all of them. As for me, I took it easy. I think it’s the war veteran’s privilege6 . I’m the only person, that’s fit for combat here, so It’s best to refrain from using my energy.
