You Didn't Tell Me the Start of My Transmigration Was a Gate

CH 14.2

Chapter 14 Part 2: Call me Unnie

It’s detestable to see him acting all shy in front of Pyo Hye-Won. Did Jo Yeon-ho feel the same way everytime he saw me acting the same way in front of master? It made me feel a little bit upset for some reason.

I don’t really know the details, but Jo Yeon-ho must have something that he felt indebted to Pyo Hye-Won for.

(Hey, are you okay?)

Probably something similar to what I experienced back then.

Inside the hazy mist not far away was an antique mansion. It gave off an anachronistic feeling to it. It’s like a place where medieval aristocrats used to live in. Every part of the mansion was carefully laid with intricate patterns, from the wallpapers, to the candlesticks. The only unnatural thing in this grand scenery was that colorful chandelier hanging in the middle of the hall.

-I told them I would leave.

A woman’s voice was suddenly transmitted through an old mirror. She had that firm gaze, not at all intimidated by the people around her. She was standing firm in front of their scrutiny, as if unwilling to bend in the slightest.

The room was dark, and a man’s figure could be barely seen sitting while watching the mirror closely. One could only vaguely see the purple fabric made of soft silk showing off its luster, as he moved.

-You Alone? Why? You know it’s much safer to stay there.

-Because there was someone I had to find.

The hand that was tilting the teacup suddenly stopped. A long, white fingers touched the side of the teacup for awhile before it dropped.

Unfortunately, the woman shown in the mirror, didn’t clarify who she was looking for.

The man quietly took a sip of the slightly cooled tea in front of him.

Interesting. She decided to act alone after meeting with Cerberus. What is she planning to do?

Oddly enough, She seemed to be acting like she’s looking for him, after she learnt that he was waiting for her?

Ah it’s curious. It seems like I need to pay close attention to this woman.

Seeing Han Seo-Ha’s appearance, with her eyes shining brightly while staring at the woman with light ivory hair, it made him wonder. Could he be wrong? Was she looking for that woman instead?

He tried hard to erase those doubts in his mind. Why would that cold-hearted young Hunter take risks trying to find a woman she’s never seen before? Anyways, how could Han Seo-Ha know that they would pass by the Salt Desert? In this vast expanse of a gate, how would she know they’d meet?

Thinking of it that way, he was finally convinced that the only person Han Seo-ha is looking for was probably himself.

Come to think of it, in Cerberus’ memories, Seo-Ha acted like she knew me…

Didn’t she spit out his name correctly? She called him Beelzebub.

The man lowered his head a bit, and a glimmer of light suddenly enveloped him. His fine black hair flowed like silk. A lightly draped robe was wrapped around his body. The long eyelashes dropped down to cast a shadow on his perfectly sculpted face. Those ruby like eyes, started gleaming strangely.

His pupils were slit vertically, a proof of his non-human origin.

In this surreal atmosphere, the man was sitting merrily inside a mansion which looked like it had been built between the Middle Ages and the modern times. The whole scene was like a common one seen in a B-grade vampire movie back in the 80s.

This is fun…

Although he sent Cerberus, Beelzebub didn’t really expect Han Seo-Ha to come to him. It was just a simple tryst. Or one could call it his invitation. Yes, indeed he was keeping an eye on her. However, it could be wrong and he was just messing around with her.

In fact, Han Seo-Ha is not the only one who received Cerberus’ message. That’s because she wasn’t the only one with a prospective talent that attracted him, in this gate.

Han Seo-Ha was a rare talent with a unique skill, but it was not enough to say that she was different. However, this reaction intrigued him. Enough to make him want to pay attention to her every action.

I’ve been observing humans for a very long time, but humans on Earth were the only ones who can make me happy.

It was rewarding to mess around inside this silly little game. Although he wasn’t really interested in it, but if it’s as interesting as now… His thoughts might have to change again. If there’s anything that can bring even the slightest stimulus to his boring life, he would gladly give up any amount of money just to have it.

Beelzebub softly arched his red lips. Then grabbed a glass of wine and quietly sipped on it. He doesn’t usually drink wine, preferring tea over the other.

I search around for signs of other survivors who weren’t able to make it to the indoor gym, but I wasn’t able to find anyone. Even if there were survivors, they’re probably dead for a long time since it’s already been a month.

The people from the Backwater Guild didn’t feel good after knowing this fact. They seemed to feel a sense of guilt.

“We were too late…”

Hyewon-Unnie muttered softly.

There were traces that showed signs of people staying here before. However, there were burn marks as well as clothes scattered everywhere on the ground. There were even rotten half opened canned items, as if they were in the middle of eating. Rather than saying they abandoned this place, It’s more like these people were unexpectedly attacked, and were unable to escape.

“It’s been a month..”

Jo Yeon-Ho had the same grim expression as everyone else.

As the atmosphere subsided, I grabbed my stuff and settled down nearby. In the end, those who live must continue living.

“Would it have been different if we had come a little earlier? If only the government responded faster, and if the guilds hadn’t quarreled…”

Hyewon-Unnie seemed to have a hard time sorting out her emotions.

Of course the reason why it took a month for the scouting units to be deployed was not because of a reasonable excuse. Gatenie, the Largest Reconnaissance team, were busy selecting competent hunters and forming a clearing unit.

They had to plan how many scouting units to send, and how many equipment they need to prepare in order to thoroughly scout the entire gated area.

They needed  to assign a team to collect and organize every information that the scouting units deliver, and then create another team that can form clear tactics with the given information. It doesn’t really take more than a day or two to do that…

If it was the only reason, then it wouldn’t really take them more than a month to deploy the units. After all, South Korea is a country where gates frequently occur. They had already formed a quick and accurate set of countermeasures against any unexpected gate incidents.

However, this time it was different…

Since it’s currently the largest Gate incident in history, everyone thought that it would be a great way to earn items and merits just by participating in it. That’s why they started fighting amongst themselves.

Even before my regression, It was considered as a shameful part of our history. The fact that the rescue of survivors were delayed due to conflicts between guilds was a painful mistake.

“Hyewon-Unnie.”

However, it was not suitable to lose morale by being too preoccupied with that matter.

“Yes?”

“Don’t beat yourself up too much. The reason why I’m alive now, was because Unnie saved me.”

Well I’m not lying. It was in fact true, that I was saved from being almost bitten to death by a Salt Specter.

“If I hadn’t met my unnie, I would have died there. Unnie is my lifesaver, and I’m so grateful.”

The words are slightly different. However, before the regression occured it was the same. Master saved me as well, and she was my purpose.

Master you didn’t know how much I’ve wandered ever since I lost you. You never knew, how long I lived madly in hatred and anger because you died.

“Seoha-ya…”

Hyewon-unnie looked at me with a moved expression. She was about to tell me something when she squeezed my hand but…

The atmosphere changed in an instant.

Hyewon-unnie quickly stood up and stared to one side with a pale face. The others also drew their weapons and stared at the same direction.

Is there something wrong? I wasn’t able to sense anything at all.

“It’s coming.”

Hyewon-unnie let out briefly. However, that was enough. Everyone quickly cleared off their camp. I was then pushed by everyone and fell to the very back.

It was right next to Jo Yeon-ho. This means that I was to be protected along with him with utmost priority.

I was about to step forward, but Jo Yeon-ho grabbed me. He shook his head slightly.

Yes. I’m aware. My current skills are slightly inferior to professional hunters at the moment. However, I have the fighting sense and battle experience, that surpasses my measly stats. But… I wasn’t really sure if I would really be of any help to them. I wasn’t even able to sense the monster that Pyo Hye-Won detected.

I bit my lower lip and then waited in the back with the karambit in my hand.

A distinct scent of a monster suddenly permeated our surroundings.
