Chapter 49: Scorching Hot Labyrinth
「Oh, it’s you, Ishikawa.」
「What a fine greeting you got there. Are you going to dive with everyone here today?」
The man called Ishikawa by the president spoke with an intimate tone.
「This is the first time I saw the youth over there. Is he your new employee?」
「Yes. He’s our new super rookie. I brought him today for a field trip.」

Ishikawa squinted his eyes, letting out a smug smile as he heard those words.

Said the president with a sullen look on his face.

Ishikawa then turned his head and looked at Yuuma. Yuuma was at a loss for words since Ishikawa’s question came literally out of nowhere.
「Ah, em… My name is Mitaka… Mitaka Yuuma.」
「So it’s Mitaka-kun. Then let me tell you, this Kanzaki over here is pretty blunt with his words but his ability as an Explorer is actually top notch. That’s why please be patient with him.」

This man turned out to be a nice guy.
「It’s none of your business!」 Said the president grumpily but Ishikawa just dismissed it with a light smile. —These two, are they actually good friends?
「Maika-chan, just tell me if you have enough of his company. I’ll introduce you to a better company, a good girl like you should be able to work anywhere.」

「So noisy! Get out of my sight already~!」 shouted the president angrily but again, Ishikawa just parried it aside with a small laugh.
He then bid his farewell and left the place with his team.
「Is he your acquaintance, Maika-san?」
Maika made an impish smile on her face the moment she heard Yuuma’s question.
「Well, the number of Explorers back then is a lot fewer than now. That’s why we have many acquaintances among the people who have been an active Explorer since back then.」
「I see.」
「Oi! Let’s get going!!」
The president shouted angrily when Yuuma spoke to Maika about that matter. It seems he was really pissed off.
Maika followed after the president while humming lightly, Tanaka on the other hand just smiling wryly as he told Yuuma that it was just their usual banter.

「Here is the entrance of the red dungeon…」
Before Yuuma and co was an abyssal hole which looked like the jaw of a giant creature.
The size of the entrance was much bigger than the blue dungeon, when he peeked into the hole, he saw a stone staircase continued down into the abyss. And since they’re inside the hole, he felt the temperature rise quickly.
They’re currently at a dome-shaped building, there are a few SDF personnel wearing camouflaged attire stationed inside, they look really strict.

The difference with blue dungeons was so big, like the difference between a child and adult. Yuuma ended up gasping, feeling the intense atmosphere.
「Is something the matter, Yuuma? Feeling nervous now?」
Asked the president who stood beside Yuuma.
「No… It just feels… Completely different compared to the blue dungeon.」
「Hahaha, what are you talking about? They’re absolutely the same. Let’s go!」
The president descended the staircase with a quick and light gait. Maika and Tanaka followed him from behind.
Yuuma took a breath, and then followed the three of them.

Red dungeon, 1st floor.
At the base of the staircase was a short tunnel, upon leaving that tunnel was an area overflowing with light. Yuuma used his hand to protect his eyes from the sudden burst of light while marveling at the scenery before him.
「Hoe~… So this is the deep floor… of the red dungeon!」
It was a world overflowing with crimson-coloured ground as far as he could see. The ceiling was plastered with blue sky, and he felt the heat of the scorching sunlight on his skin.
「Just like what I saw on TV. Is this what they call a dungeon’s illusion?」
「Yes. In fact, you’re going to hit a rock wall after walking around a hundred meters ahead but, you won’t notice that since this is just a mirage unless you walk that far.」
When it happened on the deep floor, it was called with another name, “Dungeon Mirage”.
There was no clarification yet for this phenomenon that could alter reality.
「Well, it’s a good thing since the inside of the dungeon becomes pretty bright even without illumination. Making our job more easier.」
Said the president as if those phenomena had nothing to do with him while picking back the huge bag pack that he dropped a while ago and carried over his shoulder again.
「We have no business on this 1st floor. Let’s go straight until the 10th floor!」
The four of them walked on the scorching hot ground, heading straight toward the stairs to the next floor. It felt like the temperature around them was easily over 40 degrees Celcius.
Though it felt like an illusion, the heat was real. After walking for a while, they arrived at the cave on the rugged rock wall.
When Yuuma tried to peep into it, there was nothing like a staircase from before, so going down will be pretty hard due to the rough scaffolding.
