No matter how desperate the reporters are, it would be difficult for them to handle two sturdy knights.

On top of that, unlike Brigitta who was approachable, Karl emitted an aura that kept people from approaching him.

His personality was great so it was a shame but that aura was truly useful— Sorry again Karl!

Eva’s flow of thought was stopped when the manuscript caught her eye.

The blank papers on the table were glowing brightly as if they were asking if she was not going to work at all today.

She looked up to the ceiling again.

So, tomorrow we will be drinking, eating, and having fun…

Her escape to imagination continued until…

Ding-dong.

“Huh?”

Eva lifted herself up at the sudden tingling noise.

‘Did I hear that right?’

Ding-dong. Ding-dong.

“Anyone home?”

“Uh.”

Eva sprang up from the bed and wore the skirt over her pajama pants. Then she wrapped herself in her shawl to cover up the soup stain on her shirt.

She checked her hair and sprinted down the stairs.

The bell continued to ring.

“Yes, Yes. Who’s asking?”

Eva opened the lock she installed the day after Alex visited.

A boy wearing a brown hat and a scarlet uniform was standing in front of the door.

It was the staff uniform of ‘that place’.

“Ah! Uh, I’m from the messenger bird management center. Here is your letter. Miss Evangeline?”

“Yes, yes. That’s me.”

“Uh, there’s a letter from the City Hall……”

The boy hesitantly opened his mailbag and pulled out a letter.

He was a little frightened by the word ‘City Hall’ printed on the envelope.

On top of that, this was Terrier Road.

It’s not where the nobles live but it was still considered a rich part of town where merchants and knights lived.

This small lady didn’t seem dangerous but he still had to be careful and vigilant.

Since one can’t judge a book by its cover.

If Eva showed even a hint of annoyance, he was ready to bolt.

Besides, this place was odd. Strangely, people seemed to avoid this house.

“Oh.”

The small lady’s eyes widened when she saw the letter the boy handed.

She opened the letter on the spot.

Her green eyes behind the glasses scanned the letter swiftly.

“Oh!”

The boy was surprised.

Her eyes opened even wider.

And slowly, she started smiling.

“Uh, uh C, can you wait here a bit? Uh, I have something, uh to send. I’ll give you 5 silvers for it.”

“Ah, yes. Of course!”

Just like any other human in this materialistic world, the boy excitedly forgot about how he thought this house was scary at the words ‘5 silvers’.

People who paid him were good people.

5 silver could make for half his daily wage.

Rich towns are the best! The tips were so generous.

Eva came back with some documents in her hand.

“T, this is for the City Hall. T, This is for the real estate agency two blocks to the right. When you… get there can you send my message to them as well?”

The file with the documents that was to be sent to the City Hall was quite heavy and the letter that was to be sent to the real estate was thin.

The boy wrote her message down and nodded.

Eva looked away from the boy and continued.

“Tell them that I want to buy the house next door.”

Karlos was bored.

An hour had already passed since he sat on the throne in the Ballroom surrounded by music and laughter.

The formal greetings were already finished so there was nothing left for him to do except to sit there like a decoration

He would rather he be working than be sitting here doing nothing.

The Emperor looked at the luxuriously dressed nobles and sighed softly.

“I believe the Eastern Land’s silk will be a great hit this season.”

“Oh my, the trade ships have already been sent.”

“Hahaha, there will be a chance next time. Or well, I might have some extra stock…”

This side was discussing which products would sell the best this year.

The silk business will fail though. Since the Chancellor was planning a large-scale trade with the Eastern Lands.

“How many points do you reckon?”

“Oh, unfortunately, he slathered on too much hair oil. Hm, what a shame I say 5 points.”

“Precisely. Who even does that anymore? Besides, his line was utterly tacky.”

That side was judging the young lads that were attempting to flirt with the ladies.

Karlos, too, agreed with the young lady’s last remark.

Who even refers to a lady’s face as a ‘flower that attracts butterflies’ nowadays?

Perhaps he could be this year’s society’s biggest embarrassment.

“You must behave!”

“Mother! Who in the right mind would wed at my age! Do you think I’m mad enough to marry that man?!”

“How dare you raise your voice to your mother?! Don’t talk back to me!”

“D, dear. Why don’t you continue this discussion outside on the terrace…?”

“What’s wrong with you now! Are you saying our daughter is right?! Are you going to take care of her if she ends up unmarried?! Will you?! You never gave a slight of your attention in anything that goes on in this damned household!”

And over there a loud family meeting was going on.

Karlos looked at the young lady sneaking away skillfully as her parents argued.

She would make a good knight.

Their voices got louder as they argued and the lady’s husband attempted to kiss her to calm her down and instead got slapped hard.

Hmm, guessing by the looks of it, it seems like there would be a divorce request soon enough.

So many things were happening and the Emperor could not join in anywhere.

If there were any other royal family members, he would have conversed with them.

But there was no one left other than Maximilien.

But even Maximilien wasn’t here today.

Perhaps it was a good thing he’s not here today since if he was here, he would have caused trouble with his magic like the last time when he gave a literal pig’s tail to a young gentleman.

Yes, it’s better without him.

The Emperor sighed again.

Only if he could leave saying he was not feeling well.

But he was a Rumilesa.

Since Rumiliesa’s never got sick, excuses like ‘not feeling well’ didn’t work.

And of course, the Chancellor would never let him do that.

Karlos knew about the Chancellor’s plan to show the Emperor’s strength to the nobles and to collect new information.

But the Chancellor did not even come here giving excuses that a commoner like him can’t blend in such situations.

The Emperor frowned.

The musician’s hands trembled so much when he saw the Emperor’s frown, that a disturbing, piercing sound rang.

Everyone then looked at the source of the sound and saw the unhappy Emperor and abruptly looked away.

Karlos sighed once again.

He signaled the pale musician to continue playing and looked out the window.

He knew his gaze would instill fear in people.

If the high officers were here he wouldn’t be this bored but this banquet was not appropriate for old nobles to join. So only Marquis Villiore was present but he was too busy looking after his son.

‘I really don’t want to be here.’

The Emperor glanced at Brigitta having a jolly conversation with the ladies.

That must be nice. Having close friends.

There were many young ladies in blue dresses surrounding Brigitta.

Guessing by the color coordination they must be knights.

Naive young gentlemen that approached were bounced off by them.

It was expected since even though they were slim, they had muscles from training.

‘I just want to read books.’

Looking at Brigitta reminded him of his beloved author.

Did she finish the next chapter yet?

Karlos recalled the tension of the main characters in the last chapter.

She despicably ended the chapter on a cliffhanger.

With a palpitating heart, the Emperor was missing the scent of books in his private library.

Lockhart was an aspiring journalist of the Morning of Glory newspapers.

Meaning, he was an asshole and a scandalous writer.

And he did not mind doing horrible and evil things to write an article that would sell well.

People despised him but whatever.

His pocket was full of money and prostitutes came forward to bury his face into their breasts. With this for a reward, he could let all the scoldings and complaints of the people slide.

“Julien Lockhart. It’s a summoning order from the City Hall.”

“For what charge?”

“Stalking. Ah, many of the other reporters here will be joining you so no need to feel lonely.”

But he swore he never stalked anyone, especially when there was no monetary benefit.

“Stalking? Me? I have no memory of that. Isn’t this suppression of the press? Huh! Can the City Hall do this? Don’t you know the word ‘a pen is mightier than a sword’? Hey! Do you not know what my articles can do to your reputation? You can’t do this without evidence!”

Lockart pointed and threw his spit at the City hall officer— a person with a slick back hair named Billford.

This was not the first time the City Hall tried to mess with Lockhart anyway. Lockhart was used to their investigation.

“Ah, you’re mistaken, sir.”

But something was different this time.

By now, they all left with a frown but this man in front of him was smiling and signaling for more men to come forward.

“This is not our independent investigation. There are too many of you guys that look like the stalker that was reported last month. The witness reported it themself so we don’t really have a choice.”

Detective Billford couldn’t hide his excitement and smirked.

Finally, the day came to investigate this place.

He ordered the officers behind him with a phrase he wanted to say so badly for so long.

“Arrest them!”

-you can skip from here but

On a serious note:

I know this isn’t really the platform to share my thoughts or spread awareness in certain issues but I just wanted to mention the seriousness of the situation in Myanmar. The people there are being badly oppressed and some protestors have already lost their lives because of the unnecessary violence. This is scarily just the tip of an iceberg I know about the situation in Myanmar. We send our best regards to the people of Myanmar and I hope the readers would do the same.

Disclaimer: I am not taking any sides here nor am I saying these issues are more important than the other things that have happened or are happening in the world. I just want to bring attention to these matters.
